Crunch!!
I have some very fond personal memories of that place. I only lived there for about half a year (I was subleasing from a friend,
elle_killer, who was studying abroad in Hungary), but it was absolutely a crucial turning point in my life.
I was at an all-time low with regard to some inner demons I had been battling for years and I had nearly given up hope, until I decided to take a break from everything, move into that place, and nurture myself back to sanity. Sure, I had a crummy job and was subsisting off of Ramen and oatmeal and stuff like that, but living there gave me a fresh perspective on my life that I really needed. Once I moved out I wasn't fully "healed", but it was definitely a catalyst for further healing, which is really another story altogether.
Moreover, I will forever associate that time with certain foods (the aforementioned Ramen and oatmeal), music (Antonio Carlos Jobim, Bill Evans, Chris Isaak, Barry Adamson, The Album Leaf, King Black Acid, Ashrae Fax), books (The Wasp Factory, Predicate, Coin Locker Babies), shows I compulsively watched on DVD (Seinfeld, Ali G, the original TMNT cartoons), incense and candles (isn't that a Prince song?), etc... And I will also remember it as the time when my Bloomington social life finally began to emerge, when my career as a club DJ and performer took off with the onset of
Axis Of Evil and events like Videacy, and also when I made the most significant steps toward finally completing my album (which would actually be totally completed shortly after I moved into my next/current place). I had lost a big part of my identity somewhere along the line when I started going to college, but these things really helped me to reclaim it.
And the best part: I wasn't alone!
Euronymous was just a wee kitten when I got him in the summer of '05, but I had to leave him with my cousin just a month or so after I got him, as I was going back to school and the place where I was living didn't allow cats... However, once I moved out of that place and into this one, I was able to bring him down to Bloomington -- now full-grown (I totally missed his development phase) -- and I finally had the opportunity to get to know him better. He is near and dear to me.
349 1/2 S College Ave, you will be missed... Salute!
