San Diego or Bust

So running on 3 1/2 hours of sleep I went down to San Diego to visit Allison. At about 5:30 AM on Saturday (who really wakes up that early on a weekend? I must be insane) I jump in my Camry for a short 2 hour ride to SD. Lucky for me the freeways going down were quite clear. Going the opposite way however was more of a fun sight. Just past Disneyland on the northbound side of the freeway I saw an 18 wheeler tipped on it's side spilling it's cheaply made (probably from Mexico) clothing all over the freeway. I was tempted to stop and pick up some shirts for the girlfriend, but then it's not smart to stop on the freeway even though I am asian if you can believe it.
I actually believe what the people say about my Los Angeles driving skills. It'll take a while for me to get them back. I say this because on the empty freeway I was only going 20 over the speed limit (approx. 85 mph). I feel so dissappointed in myself. Anywho...further along the road, right before the checkpoint I a second accident. This time a 7-Eleven truck, smartly, decided that "maybe if I run into the back of this semi fast enough it will make it go faster." Unfortunately for him/her, the laws of physics didn't agree and promptly enough the aftermath was a truck with its cab hanging around somewhere with the chips and sodas in the container.
I finally made it to Chula Vista at about 9:00 AM. I noticed that San Diego looks a lot like San Francisco which was kind of neat. So I met up with Allison and it really felt good to see her again. Made me feel kind of warm. We were originally going to go back up to Disneyland, but since it was her grandparents 56th wedding anniversary we had to stay close. On a side note in this country and in this age that's a real accomplishment and I want to congratulate them. So instead we went to Coronado Island. That place is absolutely beautiful. I would not mind retiring there when I become rich and famous. Real family town with lots of little children. Allison and I ended up walking a mile and a half from where we parked to the beach because it was free that way. She didn't mind, but running on 3 1/2 hours of sleep with no breakfast or lunch I was dying.
We spent the majority of our day there which was real nice. We went out to dinner with her grandparents to an old-fashioned steak house where I wore a tie with a black shirt and kahki shorts just so they could cut it off and hang it on the wall. It was mildly interesting. I hope I made a good impression on the family. On the way back I again ran into something interesting. My dad told me to watch for a toll part of the freeway on the way up. When I got to the section where lots of cars were lining up I rolled down the window and pulled out two dollars (being the average toll I've seen) and held it out the window. The officer there stared at me oddly and asked to see my drivers license. It was then I figured out that it wasn't a toll plaza, but an immigration checkpoint. I think he thought I was trying to bribe him (although cheaply). He waved me through and I drove on. I made it back with no problems. I miss Allison and I hope to see her soon.
