A wild freevo appears and talks Transformers Prime.
Some thoughts on the season thus far.
I wasn't a big fan of the first four or so episodes, but things have considerably picked up since Plus One, so I've been enjoying the rest of the season quite a lot. The fossil hunting didn't bother me too much because the episodes itself were fine and it was done with quickly. I still feel like the show as a whole is a bit directionless though. Megatron doesn't really have any master plan or goal in mind most of the time, or when he has, it just doesn't make sense. Thirst was the single best thing ever.
Characters
■ I used to hate Wheeljack, but this season did wonders to the character in my eyes. I legit like him now. I suspect it has to do with Ultra Magnus. Their early antagonistic relationship was much needed fresh air among the general Autobot dullness. UM himself, I liked from the start. He's nowhere near MtMtE Magnus, but I can deal with that.
■ Smokescreen is still a little twit who annoys me to no end. I despise the kid-appeal, hero-wannabe archtype too much and he manages to hit every single note perfectly on that accord. I'm set in my ways, I can't help it. I do prefer his new paintjob though.
■ I feel pretty ambivalent about Shokwave. It doesn't matter how often he says 'logical' it still won't make it so. Other than that, he still has a sweet design, I guess?
■ I don't much care for Predaking either but I like where the story is going with him. Third factions always make things more interesting (pretty sure that's where they're going with it).
Minus One
Eh, Prime has been on a roll, it had to come to an end eventually. I didn't like this episode as much as the previous ones. It had an awkward pace and there was a lot of exposition in the first half. And the Predaking/Optimus fight bored me, I'm not afraid to say it. But, that's not to say the whole thing was awfful, there where quite a few bits I really enjoyed.
Loved the first scene.
Shockwave finally wises up to Starsceam but lets him get away with it yet again. Why? I don't know. Do I care? Not in the least. I want smooth-talker, devious Starscream to live, and he's been back to form lately in that regard. Megaton's "I'm thinking" and "teamwork" comments were highly amusing, even if it didn't make much sense to let his lts further be at each other's throat. But that's what Megatron is really about nowdays.
Ultra Magnus and Wheeljack
Probably my favourite thing in the episode. I loved when Wheeljack was rubbing his arm unconsciously during the first assessment over Magnus's battle readiness. It was predictable, but it was still an 'aw' moment for me when he later sticked up for him in front of Ratchet to let him on the mission. He came to respect UM and feels bad, maybe even a little guilty about what happened earlier. I also liked the bit where Arcee asked him if he was allright, it was a nice nod back to their team up in Plus One. She can see right through him and can tell what's bothering him.
Interrogation
Oh, boy, Ratchet's a ruthless bastard, isn't he? I kinda dig that. He was all ready to cut SW up for info. Considering that it took him like 5 minutes to figure things out on his own regarding the Omega Lock, that seemed a little premature in retrospect. Soundwave, that smiley was the most surreal thing ever, I don't know if I want more of that or not. I do love that he's so loyal to the cause that he would essentially fry his own brain in order to withold the info. If he wasn't a designated bad guy that would have been considered such heroic non-sense. Well, cue BAMF Laserbeak to the rescue and some well-deserved pwnage of the 'Bots. That was a freakin' menacing fade to black to end the episode with.
Soundwave did the thing.
I gotta be honest, I didn't like it. I could get into it further and explain why, but eh, it's not that important. I still think this Soundwave is aweome, and that's what matters to me in the end.
