Got to hang out with Kelly for a bit yesterday. That was fun. We went to this cute little cafe with organic yummies, and then we wandered about and did some shopping in Central Square. She showed me this delightfully geeky bookstore called Pandemonium, that has graphic novels and magic cards and dice and the like. The geek in me wanted to jump up and down and squeal with glee. They also have a downstairs gaming room, where the host various RP games (different ones on different nights of the week), and there's also an open board game night on Wednesdays. I'm thinking of regularly going to some of their events, even if I don't have someone to go with, cuz it seems like a good way to meet people and kill time simultaneously. Yay! =D
I've discovered that I'm my happiest when I hang out with people as often as I can get away with, am out and about a lot, fill my life with little routines and regular activities and such (board game nights would certainly count as such), and find cozy nooks and crannies where I can retreat for relaxation breaks when I don't necessarily have the time or the desire to go home. Pandemonium will probably turn out to be one of those places here in the Boston area, possibly also the cafe we went to, possibly also Lesley University's reading room, possibly also Harvard yard (when it's sunny and warmish, and I can wander about taking photographs or drawing or mingling with random Harvard students and then running off, leaving them utterly confused and me utterly amused.)
Essentially, I want to be a college student forever. (Not in the sense of taking classes forever .... dear god no .... but in the sense of the lifestyle). But, to my delight, I'm discovering that that goal is not actually all that impossible.
Kelly eventually had to go bc she had a date with the MaxMan. I was going to go home, but was feeling manic and in the mood for an adventure. So I "decided" instead to ride the subway around aimlessly (I have a monthly unlimited T pass, so why not?). I got off at Porter Square on a whim, wandered about a bit, finally got cold and went in to Lesley University (which Sasha helped me discover during my visit to Cambridge over Long Weekend with her and Kelly). Got some sushi, used their computers for a bit to check my email and have an entertaining AIM conversation with Wren. The time got away from me a bit, and I finally dragged myself exhaustedly back to the nearest subway station at approximately 11:45pm. Didn't get home until 1am, then remembered that I promised the Meaths I would walk the dogs every night between dinner and the time I go to bed and I hadn't yet. So, more wandering around outside in the freezing. Yay.
I was feeling a bit sniffly when the evening began, and was still recovering from bronchitis and a sinus infection from at the end of term. So, of course, I wake up this morning feeling really sick ... again. And when I get sick, it's not just for a few days...usually a few weeks to a few months (ie, I'll be lucky if I recover by the end of Field Work Term.) Fuck, fuck, fuck. I royally messed things up. Why do I do such stupid things sometimes? Hanging out with Kelly for a bit was fine and fun and I needed to see a friend after a lonely few days earlier (and besides which, we really weren't outside all that often...just in between stores for like a minute at a time.) But I really should have gone home after that, gone to bed early and gotten a good night sleep, rather than ride around a crappily-heated subway followed by wandering around outside and then more wandering around outside. And it wasn't even that much fun.
I don't know if I believe anymore what I said earlier about impulses. They get me into trouble way too often.
Anyway, enough moaning about things that I can't change at this point. I have a busy and exciting week ahead of me, and I'm going to enjoy it...sick or no sick...cuz I'm only here for 7 weeks and if I allowed this to put me in a bad mood I'd only end up kicking myself in the rear even more than I'm already doing. So, yeah. Time to get a few more hours of rest before getting up for the day.
~Toodles and good night~
