Just a reflection.

So I've been thinking about how crazy karate can be, both with drama and the Art itself. More and more each day, I find that Kenpo is similar to other things in life, whether it be my relationship with Christ, schoolwork, or even something as simple as planning a meal. It's as if, in a way, Kenpo encompasses every area of life either directly or indirectly, and is directly parallel to a relationship with God. Both require hard work, determination, humility, and open eyes.

I'm hoping to start working more on developing my Kenpo. I've been doing a lot of "the system this, the system that", because I'm an instructor and as an instructor, you are to teach the system to others. But the system is not the end. No, it's from the system, you develop your style. As my old head instructor used to say it,

Kenpo is not a style; it is a system. You learn the system, but you make it your own style.

I guess that's another reason why black belt is only the beginning. Your eyes are really opened, and you began to really see. It's as if all that learning you learned before, all those conclusions, the understanding you came to before, was rather elementary, just setting the stage.

This is where the martial arts journey truly begins.

system, style, karate, parallel to life, martial arts, kenpo, journey
