There was a Cabal Agent inside the Sanctuary.
Scratch that, there was another Cabal Agent inside the Sanctuary. Dana would keep pulling her puppetstrings as long as she was alive and useful, or at least as long as Kate had something or someone to lose. She tried not to think about what that would entail.
Kate knew she was walking a fine line between

"Come on - get off!" Nikola mutters, as the bird flaps around his head, pecking lightly at him. Nikola fishes the tin of bread out and breaks it up for the bird which at the very least earns him some peace as he heads back downstairs and saunters over to his desk. Well, not technically 'his' desk. It was an ordinary library desk pushed over by the window but everybody knew that it was now is and didn't dare go anywhere near it ( ... )

Of course, there was nothing to do at such an early how, so mostly she ended up pacing her room, sitting back on the bed. Lying down, staring at the ceiling, pacing again.
She was trapped and out of good options with nothing to do but sit and wait for someone to jerk her in one direction or another. The sheer helplessness of it made her a little sick, to be honest.

He does not look particularly happy but he has come here to discover where Kate's loyalties lie once and for all. And if those are not with the Sanctuary, then she is going to be looking for a new home today - or a gravestone.

Kate hopped up off the edge of the bed, turning the knob to reveal a very upset looking Nikola Tesla standing in the hall.
"What is it?" She sighed tiredly, bracing herself for a fresh round of whatever he had prepared.

"Are you or are you not still working for the Cabal?" he asked, no point dancing around the issue.
Reply
"No!", She snapped instantly, adding a silent yes, but not willingly in her mind so the lie would sting a little less.
"How many times do I have to tell people that?"

Not while there was so much at stake.

"I don't know what I'm supposed to do to...convince you. I'm doing everything I can", the last words come off sad and desperate in a way she couldn't control. Anxiety and frustration bubbling to the surface as the truth began to escape her.

"Do far Ms Freelander? You've done nothing to improve my opinion of you. Especially after your upset Morgana..." He had found her bloody and in tears.

She wants to stop, to draw back, but she doesn't know how not to react the way she does, she knows how to get angry when threatened all too well.
"Well what could I do?!Please, tell me if there was a single thing I could say or do that would help anything. It doesn't matter if I want to or not, I. Can't."

"You could try showing a little fucking remorse... It's as if - as if you don't give a shit what you did - how you betrayed people that trusted you - that let you into their homes and lives. How could you sit there in the van with Morgana the whole way to the base knowing what you were doing? How?"

"Because I've spent ten fucking years shutting everything else out on the job, because that's how you survive, because I got in way over my head and couldn't admit that I couldn't handle it,it doesn't matter. But if you think I don't hate myself every damn minute of every damn day for what I did, then you're wrong."
She panted, almost shaking with barely tamped down emotion, "Who the hell did you think left you that note?"
Reply
Kate had left him the note?
"That was you?" he was still growling - the acute anger still present in his voice. "Why would you leave me such a thing? DO YOU THINK THIS IS A JOKE?"
In his present state of fury, he overlooks the material point, that there is a Cabal employ other than Kate running around.

"Look, I don't know who they are, or how long they've been here, but they're here and even if I knew when their goddamn birthday was, I still couldn't touch them."

"There's another Cabal sleeper inside this Sanctuary...?" his eyes were flared with a mixture of anger and alarm. "How do you know this, Kate - and why couldn't you touch them?" It sounded awfully like she was still in the fold of the Cabal... however much she denied it.

No, she knew Dana Whitcomb, the woman didn't bluff, mostly because the bitch was two steps ahead and didn't need to.
"I just can't", she said simply, hoping he'd drop that part of the subject.
