The dog is turning into a couch potato.

I was wrapping presents this evening (and OMG what a production that was--it was a great idea to do all my shopping online but a terrible idea to wrap EVERY GIFT AT ONCE) and for forty-five straight minutes, Addie hopped on and off the couch, stared at me, stared at the TV, and whined.

"Knock it off! I'm watching Sherlock Holmes!" I finally shouted at her, tossing the scotch tape onto the floor in frustration.

Whine whine whine. She circled around on the couch a few times, pointed her nose at the TV, and then stared at me.

"Dude, come on, I was watching TV first. Go bug Mom and Dad for their TV."

She jumped off the couch. Jumped on the couch. Walked from one end of it to the other. Whiiiiiiiiine. Whinewhine.

I sighed mightily and put down the scissors and curling ribbon. "Oh, fine."

You see, a few weeks back, my parents bought some DVDs. Specifically, dog DVDs. The kind one might put in a DVD player and leave on to entertain a dog while one is out running errands. They have ducks and prairie dogs and shit, animals running around, weird noises... and Addie loves them.

Loves them enough to pester the bejeebers out of me until I put the stupid DVD on.

Then she sat on the couch, happily put her head down on the armrest, and watched it for half an hour straight. This dog is too smart for her own good.

a day in my life, you wish they were yours
