Title: Grow Together

Author's Note/Summary: written for felix_aeternus who was upset at what I'd done to Arthur in Ask of You. Sort of written for the New Beginnings drabblefest at thefuturequeen. Inspired by felix_aeternus's penchant for drawing Gwen with a red rose in her hair (canonized by the last bit of episode 10) in many of her gorgeous fannish works. Edited slightly from its original posting.
Gwen found that somehow even more intimidating than the wedding or the coronation, was entering 'The Queen's Chambers' and knowing they belonged to her. Her stomach was twisted in knots, her palms were a little sweaty, and it was made none the better by the small, nervous maid trailing uncertainly behind her.
After a quick survey of the main room, Gwen spotted a single red rose lying upon the small vanity, a piece of parchment tucked carefully beneath. Moving forwards and pointedly ignoring the subtle grandeur of the intricately carved mirror frame, Gwen lifted the flower first. She brought the bloom to her nose and granted herself a brief moment to indulge, inhaling its familiar and comfortable scent, before she turned her attention to the note.
My Guinevere,
There is no reason to relinquish habits of the past. I trust you'll find good use for this.
Arthur
Gwen read the note through four times, allowing his words to soothe some of her anxiety, before finally turning with a soft smile to the young girl.
"If you don't mind, let's see about a dress," she said warmly. "Hopefully we can find one in red." With her maid's nod, Gwen thoughtfully rolled the rose's stem between her finger and thumb, adding, "And then I'll teach you how to weave flowers into hair."
