Why I like them: He's an artist. He bakes. He's funny. He loves devotedly. Basically, if he were fifteen years older, he'd be my perfect man.

Why I don’t: He shut Katniss out for months over her rejection at the end of THG; even though he was understandably hurt, it doesn't gel with his usual understanding of her needs, and her need to survive. Hijacked!Peeta is a douche, but I tend to give him a pass on that, given his Extreme Torture.

Favorite episode: ...uh, this doesn't really work, since it's a book?

Favorite scene: I will never get tired of him surviving to disguising himself as a riverbank. And the conversation that follows. Brilliant. Also, him being calm, while almost dead, in order to calm Katniss down is wonderful.

Favorite line: His funniest is, “Frosting. The final defense of the dying.” But my favorite, the one that sums up the books, Peeta's character, and the complete tragedy of it all is the much quoted, “I keep wishing I could think of a way to... to show the Capitol they don't own me. That I'm more than just a piece in their Games.”

Favorite outfit: All due respect to Cinna, but I'm partial to the Arena look, at least as far as the movie is concerned.

OTP: Peeta/Katniss. Obvs.

Brotp: Peeta & Haymitch, who make an amazing team. I always remember their chess game in the Everdeen living room while Thread's men are trying to catch them all in a lie.

Head Canon: Peeta believes his father told him about Mrs. Everdeen as an apology for the mother he has. That is was Dad's way of saying, this is what I wanted you to have. And maybe a little because he knew that, even at five, Peeta wouldn't say anything to anyone. And though Peeta says he fell in love with Katniss at age five, it was more than that. He fell in love with her whole family. He used to watch them, her beautiful mother, laughing father, the whole family glowing and alive in a world that all seemed grey and dismal, and he would wish like anything that he could be one of them.

Peeta was a pretty quiet kid. He learned early on to read his mother's mood, to stay out of her way when he was most likely to catch a beating. Learned to read other people, too. It's what makes him such a good artist, his ability to read other people. He never cares much about himself, or looks too deep at who he is. It's what makes him such a good liar. When Peeta's brothers got older, they used to lash out at their mother, verbally, and somehow that was worse for him than when she walloped them. He learned how to diffuse the tension.

The skills that saved his life in the arena were all the result of his abusive mother. As long as he lived, he never realized that. But then, he always thought Katniss saved him all by herself.

He could paint from memory a portrait of his desk at school. But he could not tell you any of the dates in Panem's history, which he heard recited every month of every year there.

He never asks Katniss for children. The look on his face when he sees any is enough.

Unpopular opinion: I'm not sure if I have any, but then I'm not enough in the loop to know what the popular/unpopular opinions about him are.

A wish: That he and Katniss never lived to see another war.

An oh-god-please-dont-ever-happen: Or their children in another Games.

5 words to best describe them: observant, gifted, devoted, clever, personable
