TV

Connor/Cordy, Angel

I don’t think there’s a soul alive who would argue this one with me, nor who would be bothered that I didn’t go searching for a picture to represent that monstrosity. What insane person *cough*JossWhedon*cough* thought it would be a good idea to make Cordelia have sex with a boy whose diapers she once changed? And then, because it wasn’t enough that we all had to witness this character-destroying nightmare of a relationship, somehow this same idiot thought it would all be made better if he announced that it wasn’t Cordelia. She was possessed by an evil goddess. Which, glad to know you didn’t destroy my favorite character for no reason, you stupid prick, but that makes that skin-crawling scene even WORSE, because now, in addition to be unwatchable in its ick factor, it is also RAPE. Nicely done all the way round, you horse’s ass.

Here, have some Cordy/Angel to make you feel better, courtesy of 1SnoWhiteQueen1:

Fanfic Rec: Damn the Torpedoes! by Misty Flores
Summary: Cordelia's thrown for a very unsettling loop when Angel, no longer caring about consequences, declares his intentions. Wackiness ensues.
(To continue making you forget about things that turn my stomach, have one of the funniest, most spot-on Cordy stories I’ve ever read.)

Movies

Mr. & Mrs. Smith

No, not that one (though it’s far from a favorite of mine). This one, a 1941 screwball comedy, starring Carole Lombard and Robert Montgomery and directed by none other than the great Alfred Hitchcock. Basically, on paper, it was everything I could ever have wanted in a movie.

And yet it is so deeply appalling to me. While a certain amount of misogyny is always expected in classic film, this just took it to new heights. Mr. Smith is the most horrible fictional representation of man I ever hope to be presented with, and the relationship between them goes beyond dysfunctional and enters the realm of abusive within probably the first twenty minutes. Not even the least bit funny to me. I actually felt a little sick after I watched this movie.

If you want a great Hitchcock comedy, watch The Birds. (I’m not kidding; I find this movie hilarious. Does that make me weird?) If you want a great Carole Lombard comedy, watch My Man Godfrey or To Be or Not To Be (or a great Lombard drama with bonus Cary Grant: In Name Only). If you want a great Robert Montgomery movie…you probably have to ask someone else, because this movie made me hate him so much, I’ve never bothered to see anything else he was in.

Books

Jacob/Renesmee, Breaking Dawn

I actually feel an argument could be made for every single pairing to come out of Twilight as the worst couple ever, because, despite my love for all that Jacob & Bella could have been, what is committed to paper on way too many pages is the most horrifying amalgam of dysfunction I’ve ever seen.

But even with all of Bella’s bad choices, at least they were her choices. The moment the books mentioned imprinting, I started seeing red. I am a big believer in free will, especially when it comes to who you love. Then, Smeyer wrote that Quil had imprinted on a freaking TWO YEAR OLD, and I thought she could stoop no lower. But I really should have known there was no bottom to the depths of the Twilight mire.

Jacob Black hated being a wolf from day one. He was given no choice in that. He had a choice when it came to love, and he chose Bella, for God only knows what reason. Whenever imprinting comes up, he makes it clear that he doesn’t like it, and he flat out SAYS only a few chapters before his inevitable doom, that “Imprinting is just another way of getting your choices taken away from you.” DIRECT QUOTE, BREAKING DAWN, CHAPTER 16.

So what “happy” ending does Smeyer give him? Just a few chapters later, he imprints on Bella’s freak of a baby, and as a reward loses his entire personality and becomes a mindless drone for the rest of the book. Considering he was the only character to have a personality up until that point made it especially appalling. BADLY DONE, MRS. MEYER, BADLY DONE.

Day 30 - Your favorite ship forever and ever and ever?

I watched the UnderCovers premiere! My thoughts are not spoilery, so I will just say that it was fantastic, more excitement in that one episode than in the entire first season of Covert Affairs. And I have missed J.J.’s writing so much! I love how he seamlessly blends the ludicrous over-the-top situations with dialogue about recipes and feeding the dog. Samantha Bloom is my new hero. Although Hoyt? Is no Marshall Flinkman, I’m sorry to say. Oh, but the Bad Robot USB? HEE! Meta-jokes FTW!

In conclusion: SPIES! I have SPIES! back on my television set. I am so deliriously happy right now.
