Okay, so the last 30-day meme was so much fun, I’m already lining up a lot more - the Buffy & Angel ones, the film one, maybe the reading & writing ones, though I didn’t really like a lot of the questions, and if anyone wants to make up an Alias, Bones or Veronica Mars one, you know I’d be all over that. Anyway, next up: the Shipper Meme. Because shipping is a way of life, damn it. Also, like leobrat before me, I’m going to do my best to use different ships for every single day, and because I’m terrible at narrowing things down to one, most days I will try to have a ship for TV, a ship for books, and a ship for movies.
Day 01 - What is your current favourite ship?

Jack/Irina, Alias
Let’s just get them out of the way now, because if I hadn’t challenged myself to not repeat answers, they could dominate the whole meme. Jack & Irina are pretty much the most epic ship to ever exist. When he was a young CIA agent, Jack Bristow fell in love with and married a beautiful English professor named Laura. They had a child, a little girl named Sydney, and these two women - Laura and Sydney - were Jack’s whole world (anytime you feel like having your heart squeezed with a vice, watch season four’s “Mirage” for a glimpse at what young Jack was like with his wife and daughter).
And then that world came crashing down. Because Laura was not Laura at all. She was a KGB agent named Irina Derevko, who faked her own death to escape after spying on her husband for almost ten years. Jack was DESTROYED. He shut himself off emotionally for pretty much his whole life, even from Sydney, rather than have to tell her the truth about her mother.
The thing is, though? He never stopped loving her. Oh, he HATED her with the fire of a thousand hells, but he also always loved her, which becomes obvious when she reenters his life in season two of Alias. And then the epicness has only begun.
Because the thing about Irina? “Her motives may be insidious, her methods loathsome, but she is not unfeeling.” Direct Jack quote. And while he thinks that only applies to Sydney, I’m pretty sure it goes as far as Jack as well. She loved him, as much as she was able, you know, what with being an opportunistic sociopath and all. I’m sure of it.
We won’t discuss the series finale, because I choose to forget it ever happened. Or rather, I talk myself out of believing that that one-dimensional caricature of a comic book villain is the multi-layered, shades of grey goddess that the first four season of Alias made Irina out to be (and obviously, JACK DID NOT DIE). But, basically, any time Lena Olin & Victor Garber share the same screen I’m ready to convulse with joy. Because it’s hot and twisted and deeply dysfunctional, but still, at its core, it’s a love story.

(Yes, another Yahtzee fic. Look, if she would quit writing the best fanfic I’ve ever read, I would quit reccing her, okay? This one is really two fics in one: Jack & Laura’s courtship, and Jack & Irina during Syd’s missing two years. So, basically, it’s the two stories Jack/Irina fans most want to hear combined to tell one beautiful narrative.)

Lupin/Tonks, Harry Potter
Okay, so I’m rereading the HP book for the first time in three years, which basically means I’m revisiting my love for all my HP ships, but this is the one I’m especially loving on now, as I start Half-Blood Prince. When OotP first came out, moonlitwoods kept telling me that Lupin and Tonks were a thing, and my basic reaction was “well, that would be cool, but I didn’t see it,” but I read her fic anyway, because she’s a brilliant writer, and I don’t need something to be canon to love it (oh God, her Sirius/Ginny fic was AMAZING). Then, HBP came out, and I knew right away what was up with Tonks, all because of my friend’s hints, and then, THAT SCENE in the hospital wing. Just LOVE.
And after that, I read a lot of Lupin/Tonks fic, because Lupin has always been my favorite adult in the HP universe, and suddenly he had a chance to be happy, and I was ecstatic. And then Deathly Hallows happened, and JK Rowling broke my soul. I actually threw the book across the room when I got to that part. So, yes, it’s a horrible ship to ship, because the ending is JUST NOT FAIR, DAMN IT, but ship it I do.

Spock/Uhura, Star Trek
They are still one of the few movie ships that I have obsessed over. My fervor has cooled a little, just because of the passage of time, but nothing’s taken their place by far. J.J. Abrams & Co. just know how to speak to my shipper soul, what can I say? Spock & Uhura are the perfect combination of angst and love and trust…there’s such a quiet strength in their relationship. It doesn’t need to be the focus of attention to be powerful.
HOW IS THERE NOT GOING TO BE A SEQUEL FOR TWO MORE YEARS????
