After three and a half months, my internship at WESH 2 News finally came to an end on Thursday, April 26. WESH gave me the opportunity of a lifetime to gain experience in broadcast news and to learn about all aspects of the business. For that, I should thank the following people:
Bob: Thanks for taking the time out of your busy schedule to give me encouragement and advice. Not to mention the hours of meetings and hard work that go into making WESH 2 as strong an asset as it is.
Kirsten: Thanks for the positive evaluation and getting as involved as you do in running the show.
Risa: Thanks for hiring me and working with my schedule. I can only hope to get another interview that easygoing. You were the first to believe in me as "a great addition to the news team."
Travis, Jerry, Mike and Marcie: Thanks for leading me through the internship as you did. I could have been stranded without your guidance.
Mike, Ken, Pete, Gordon, James, Frank, Christina, Adrian and Ron: Thanks for allowing me to go on your shoots. I learned a lot about news photography by observing your work.
Michelle, Gail, Amanda and Dave "McD": Thanks for letting me take part in your reporting escapades. I vote Amanda for nicest person in the newsroom, but you were all valuable resources. Watching your work, listening to your stories and participating where I could were my favorite experiences at WESH.
Meredith: Thanks for all of the advice for my anchor demo. You were truly interested in my performance, and we made it worthy for the job search with your help.
Jim, Martha, Jason and Syan: Thanks for making news anchoring look as interesting as you make it. You all influenced my work as I put my demo reel together. Some anchors are merely news readers, but not any of you.
Mallory, Anthony, "Capes," Ed, Amanda G., Kevin, Carolyn, Jim and Liz: Thanks for the insight on the world of news producing. I highly valued the opportunities to contribute to your shows.
Carling, Kacie, Laura and Jason: Thanks for allowing me to take some of your work. We need more appreciation for associate producers.
Lorena, Dave R., Dave E. and Tom: Thanks for the nonstop effort you bring to assignment editing. Working with you made me a more well-rounded, valuable employee.
Kayla, Valezka, John, Tatiana, Farah and the other interns: Thanks for making WESH the leading station in internships in Central Florida. I'm sure at least some of you will do very well if you stay in this business.
Kendra and Jesse: Thanks for working with me, though you both are in larger places now. Good luck at KXAS and CNN.
Everyone else (web staff, production staff, other on-air talent, etc.): Thanks for your work in making WESH's newscasts what they are.
Thanks also to the viewers for keeping WESH 2 News going. If you are not watching yet, May sweeps is a good time to start.
I am most certain that this internship, together with my internship at CTTV, my work at The Minaret and my graduate studies at UCF, will lead to career-launching opportunities. I could make a whole new list to thank all of those people too. Stay tuned for my next career move.
