I'm going to have to pass on the poem bug that seems to have struck everyone recently.  I'm a pirate, not a poet.

So, anyone interesting out there?  There are quite a few characters in this place, or so I've noticed, but that begs the question of exactly who they are--one I intend to have answered today.  So, tell me a little about yourself.  I'm

... Sir. Being a pirate is against the law.

I had no idea.

There's no need to be sarcastic! I just wasn't sure if it might be different in your world than it is in mine.

But we're not in my world anyway, so I was going to say you're lucky.

Not at all. Just as illegal there as it would be where you're from. I just have a penchant for keeping and getting out of a jail cell.

Ugh... well, you seem okay, I guess. Not all criminals are bad, after all...

But you should probably be more careful so you don't ever end up in a jail cell.

Interesting thing to say for one who takes such an interest in the law.

You must have missed the "keeping" part of that. I'd much prefer to stay out of the dungeons, thank you. A little too dank, dirty, and depressing.

Well, I'm a police officer, sir. Everyone is innocent until proven guilty. I know there are such things as crimes of circumstance or simply being in the wrong place at the wrong time.

I fail to see how you could possibly pass off piracy as "circumstance", but...

"I didn't mean to steal it, it just fell into my pocket and happened to be priceless?"

In all seriousness, you've got the right idea. You might want to be a little more skeptical though. The chances of it being a crime of circumstance, tend to be quite low.

Tch! I know that, thanks you very much. I just happen to believe that everybody should have a chance before you dismiss them as a monstrous criminal.

Never said the individual involved was monstrous did I? Sounds like I hit a nerve.

Hmph! Don't be so quick to jump to conclusions! Why on earth would that hit a nerve with me?

Miss, I'm a criminal. Why in the world would I call myself monstrous?

Also, your defensiveness doesn't help you one bit, did you know that? Happen to have any run ins with the law in your younger, wilder days?

I don't know what you think I'm getting defensive about. I have no reason to defend myself.

A few years ago I met a man who was a convicted murderer and he saved my life. I saved him too, multiple times-- and since then I've learned that criminals are not always what they seem. I believe in the law but I also believe in people.

Then you and I have met people of similar backgrounds. Can't tell you much more than that, I'm afraid.

I tend not to hold beliefs in much of anything. I'll reserve my judgments for what I see.
