Hello everyone, this is freeconcrit. Like my username indicates, I'm here to give fast, free concrit on your writing.
If you've stumbled across this journal, it's probably because you've a) received my comment on your fic, b) seen my comment on someone else's fic, or c)saw me on your My Guests page. Whatever the reason, you're here now and are probably wondering a) who the hell I am, b) what the hell I'm doing, c) why the hell am I doing this, and d) why I have a stick up my ass.
Hopefully the stuff under the cut will answer these questions.
I love reading fanfiction, but there are usually small errors in writing that detracts from the overall quality of a piece. Countless times I've seen authors ask for concrit, only to receive none because readers are too afraid to offend. These authors then make the same mistakes in their writing over and over again because nobody told them it might be wrong.
So I guess that's where I come in.
Please note that I'm only one person, and my opinions about proper word usage or syntax or sentence flow is subjective. For this reason, I try to point out more concrete errors, like those in grammar or formatting. However, word usage, syntax, and sentence flow are very near and dear to my heart, so chances are you'll see them in my comments anyways. I apologize for that in advance.
In case you're wondering: yes, I am a writer as well, although I read primarily. Maybe you want to look at my fics and see if I'm throwing stones from my glass house, but they're mostly hiding in my hard drive because I make the same mistakes that I point out in other people's writing (yes, my glass house is getting quite drafty these days). I'll keep my OTP and fandom to myself, in case they make me too obvious.
Sometimes, I do come across fics that I have trouble giving concrit for. Chances are, I'm probably too wowed by your writing and have become incapable of finding things to nitpick.
All the stuff above is pretty much tl;dr (and I applaud you if you managed to wade through all that), but the most important thing is that I'm open to criticism as well. If you don't like my comments on your fic, then delete it. I understand that giant blocks of text are an eyesore on a comment page and I really don't mind. I also understand that not everybody wants concrit, so if you want to be spared from my nit-picking scrutiny, then comment on this entry and tell me. I've screened the comments so nobody will judge you for your preferences.
On the other hand, if you do want me to look over a piece of writing you've done, then send me the link in this entry and I'll do my best to read it (or at least skim over it to look for obvious mistakes) and give you proper concrit. I generally prefer to comment on the fic page itself rather than a PM (that way all I have to do is scroll up for examples), but if you're really bothered by it, then tell me in your comment.
