the weather outside may be frightful, but it can also be delightful

I was just outside in the middle of the night in sub-40-degree weather for an hour. I'm thoroughly impressed with myself. And it was fun. I might not wear sandals next time though.

(it doesn't do sub-40 back home)

I'm really looking forward to fall break. I'm looking forward to a lot of people leaving and the clarity that (hopefully) will come with some quiet and distance. I'm looking forward to reading some really good books and sleeping a lot. Score.

This quote keeps running through my head, and I thought I'd share.

Beware of the first clarity, move on to the second clarity. ~Baron Von Hegel

It's a warning to never think our ideas are final. We may get a sure word, but never a last word because every truth can be plumbed deeper, applied more widely and seen in coherent relation with other truths.

That's the mantra for my christian ed class. I heard a couple people complaining that the class was to philosophical and that we learned all kinds of things about philosphy and knowledge and nothing about ministry. That made me angry. Any sound ministry must be founded on firm philosophical and theological foundations. So many people try to do ministry with nothing but zeal, knowledge must accompany the zeal for it to be of any use.

This week has been hardcore bad, but with bright spots in it. People are so stressed and unhappy around here these days, i feel like i need to start mass distributing chill pills. I could certainly use one myself at times.
