day 11 - a memory
Well I talked about one on day nine, but let’s see. DR-wise, there’s the initial days of joining last year and Seiran & Gingersnaps meeting, the crush event, suspicious fun with Iris, suspicious times with Brunch, the Yahtzee-Bloom activity and him penalizing White, Upwords learning to ride a bike from Pleiades and the marlick ghost and the marlick girl and the Ball-pit of Fun Times, my trio of lust event pairings, the subsequent fluff and action from that… More that’s in action or just been planned...
...oh sorry, was that A memory?
But speaking of ygo recollections, I have some real free time, so--
Volume 13 :: Duel One-Sixteen :: A Duelist's Power
Last time, on YUGIOH! YnYuugi struggled in vain against Marik's Slifer defense, and moments from defeat, he's in real need of that imminent Kaiba pep-talk!
...you know, I see it more and more in the manga over the fandom anime that there's a lot more similar with YnYuugi & Yuugi than I thought. This example being that both of them are very dependent on an outside source for support to be as strong as possible. I knew that to a point of course, given their basic relationship mutual support and both grateful for their friends, but they also both needs somebody to pick them up from time to time. Examples coming to mind being, of all people, YnBakura in Yuugi vs. Otogi, and now here Kaiba in YnYuugi vs Marik via Mime. And - I should look to more than those two to say this 0 the two seem to have different motivation triggers, with Kaiba here pushing YnYuugi by calling on his pride and pointing out he's got to find a way around this tactic (hey, like Yuugi did for him against Pegasus!), while YnBakura convinced Yuugi to fight speaking of his role as the Puzzle's chosen one, and Yuugi regathering his own faith in winning. But they still share a faith in their cards and "there has to be a way" attitude, once they get back on their feet. ...YnYuugi's just louder about it. x3
I like it how Kaiba's so dismissive of the magic and Fate involved in BC and him, but he's still set on the idea that he's meant to fight Yuugi.
Also, Kaiba? Your Mow Him Down! comment makes me want to order you to never use ANYTHING but a beat down deck. Also also, you later being the first to see a way out of the Slifer tactic before YnYuugi, and so fast? Kudos. I can now buy you as a master of games in a way early series DM rulings couldn't show. Although him and YnYuugi both getting such a backdoor means of winning in the space of seconds is a little... hrmm...
Marik, someone could make a wide expression array of icons from your faces in this chapter alone. Also, why do you get such nose detail, you? And, on a more content comment note, your comments could basically read "Sombody sees something I don't? Impossible!"
....and Marik yelling in the later part of this chapter makes me want to do a crossover of him and YnYuugi.
Y: Your overconfidence is your weakness.
M: Your faith in your friends is yours.
....okay, "Quiet Mokuba" isn't quite the same but still! xD
And here we have YnYuugi's "pulls the right card at the right time" draw in action. Aside from him not being aware of it, I think it's an active version of his, and pretty much every good duelist in the series' "the cards will help you if you have faith in them" ideal at work, rather than a "he is fated to win this" idea. Of course, there's the whole the cards are shuffled and set before hand issue, but I guess we're supposed to think if they believed that they really couldn't win, they'd surrender, like Mai did against YnYuugi at Duelist Kingdom.
Volume 13 :: Duel One-Seventeen :: God Falls?!
...I'm not going to even bother commenting on the dueling moves this chapter. =-= I've done it a lot elsewhere, and this is a very general "wtf" reaction.
Unfortunately, that leaves very little to say here. Other than my amusement of going "Oh, there goes Marik's certainty- Nowait, it's back. There it- nope." For half the chapter. Which kind of mirrors his apparent thought process of "So that's what he's thinking? Ha ha, he can't do that! I- no wait-"
And again, the amusing he mentally curses moment of #@$%!
It's okay though, since a preview shows he gets back his mojo super fast next time, on YUGIOH!
