Ice Dragon - the A&S

Mar 29, 2010 09:28

So this was our year to really have fun with the Ice Dragon Penthalon.  I had been telling people since before Karl was born that he was my A&S project.  Well, I was serious.

Clewin and I (as Project Karl) entered him into the competition as well as necessary accessories.  Our entries as a group were:
16th Century Nuremberg baby (aka Karl) (Household Arts category)
16th Century German Infant Food (aka mother's milk) (Culinary- Main Course)
Viking toy horses (Toymaking)
14th C. Italian child's tunic (made of block printed fabric) (Clothing)
16th Century Monmouth Cap (Textiles)
Research paper on Nursing clothing in the Middle Ages and Renaissance (Literary)

And yes, we had a very good time writing documentation.  It turned out everyone was rather amused by the our entries.  When I went into the A&S room after judging was done, I was stopped by quite a few people commenting on the entry in my arms (we had left a photo on the table instead of trying to have Karl sit there all day).

In addition, we won blue ribbons for everything except the milk and cap (red ribbons) and won the Group Pentathlon.

Congratulations to Clewin on his first A&S entry.  He made the toy horses and wrote the documentation and scored very highly.

Aside from our group entry, I also entered a woodblock (the Siege of Acre block I won A&S Champion with) and block printed fabric.  The fabric garnered a lot of interest, so I will definitely have to write up an article for that.

I ended up winning both the Textiles and the Studio Arts categories, and HRH Tessa chose the printed fabric as the Princess' Choice.

The prizes we won are wonderful.  We have doubled out feast gear with some very nice things, I have a embroidery stand, as well as a few other things.

So in our effort to show that A&S competitions (even the Pent!) can be very fun, we suceeded and also scored very well.
