Where did I leave off? "Kuwait is dusty" That was not very descriptive. However, my access to the internet is severely limited so I do not much time for LJ posts.
This place really isn't very notable. The Army's National Training Center at Fort Irwin is very similar to much of this place. No doubt that was done on purpose. Some people in this Army actually think.
After so many years here, the Army has built up a nice base. A good-sized Post Exchange(the Army's version of a department store), multiple dining facilities (with decent food), a large gym, souvenir shops, even fast food joints(Burger King, Taco Bell, Panda Express, and a couple others), and a Starbucks.
Life is comfortable. I spend my days reading and exercising (my platoon sergeant is teaching me to smash weights, Aldo's mama ain't gonna recognize her little boy by the time he gets back).
I can't wait to get out of here. We have a few training events scheduled, but, for the most part, each day is long and uninteresting. And dusty. Let's not forget that descriptor. The brownish haze of the dust always surrounds the camp. One day it completely hid the blue sky from view. Except for the dust the skies are always clear and blue.
I want to get to the real thing. Even if it isn't as comfortable as here (I've been assured that it will not be). Even if the days are just as long and uninteresting (a very real danger, even war is almost 99% waiting and 1% action). But at least I'll be there, doing what I've been training for. Working to improve the world just a little bit.
I'm here to do my job, let's get to it.
