My entire day had been pretty quiet so far. Charles had gone back to his old neighborhood to help out an old friend clean out a really bad vampire nest. Charles hadn't been able to get his hands on some "quality vampire killin'" lately. I grinned at the conversation and at his eagerness for the kill. If I didn't know he could take care of himself, I would have been worried about his safety. But he could take care of himself, and he and I both knew it.
I'd spent the better part of my morning and afternoon, trying to file some of the loose and close files into Cordy's filing system. U has an entire section devoted to 'ugly shoes'. I grinned and continued to try to sort through her system and put files where she thinks they should go. Because heaven help me if I've messed up her system and she has to dig to find files that are in alphabetical order. I shook my head and stuck a file in the drawer and shut it.
I hoped Angel and Cordy were going to be alright back in Sunnydale. I didn't know Tara, but her being a vampire was never a good thing. Obviously not, since Angel and Cordelia jumped the first plane back there as fast as they could. It was weird being in the hotel all alone. Normally when everyone was out on a job, there would have been someone here with me, or I would have been out, too. Usually it was Cordelia or Wesley here with me when that happened.
Wesley. I knew things would be different and Wesley being gone was one of them. I missed him. I knew what he did was wrong, but that didn't make me miss one of my friends, my family, any less. We were a strange group, but we were family and there was a big hole in our family with Wes missing. I sat down in Angel's chair and sighed. My stomach made a loud grumbling noise and I made a face. Filing and reminiscing always made me hungry.
I walked into the front office and opened the tiny fridge as I squatted down. I grabbed the hoagie I'd brought to work and stood up, taking a big bite. I grabbed the bottle of chocolate milk and took a drink. I smiled as my stomach began to settle down. I heard the front doors open and I turned with a big smile on my face. My smile was quickly replaced with a look of horror as a huge Kalvont demon came strolling through the doors.
He hadn't seen me, so I dropped to the floor and scuttled into Angel's office on my hands and knees. We'd cleaned out a hive of Kalvont demons two weeks earlier and I guess that one wasn't too happy about it? Probably why he had an axe in one hand and was now screaming for all of our heads on sticks. I was all alone, unarmed and no one was going to be here for hours. I grabbed the phone and tucked myself under Angel's desk. I dialed his number from memory and whispered, "Please answer, Wes....please be home."
