Dumbledore/McGonagall Only

Feb 13, 2006 20:56

Blinded and fighting back angry tears, Fred ran through the hallways, ignoring everyone on his was. As fast as he could, he made his way to the statue of the gargoyle, starting with every sweet name he could think of.

It was near impossible.

Frustrated, scared, and angry, Fred pounded his fists on the wall beside the statue.

Hearing the pounding from below, McGonagall cast a glance at Dumbledore who nodded serenely, seemingly unsurprised as always.

Gathering her robes, she stood and went to the entrance to Dumbledore's office, concerned to see a rather frantic looking boy on the other side.

"Weasley, are you alright? Has something happened?"

He looked at the professor before him. "Can we go upstairs?" Fred asked, his eyes begging her.

"Of course, of course," she answered, moving aside to permit the 7th year entrance, and then ushered him up to see the Headmaster.

"I didn't mean to," he said when he saw the Headmaster sitting at his desk. "I really didn't.."

Dumbledore stood, his brow creasing slightly as he moved around his desk to look directly into Fred's eyes.

"Tell me what has happened."

McGonagall stood by, wringing her hands in anxious expectation.

Fred swallowed, looking from Dumbledore to McGonagall and back again. "I.. I think he's dead," his words came out almost silently.

McGonagall gasped, her hand moving to rest over her heart.

"Oh my..."

"You must tell me exactly what happened," Dumbledore instructed, his voice perfectly serious and yet somehow understanding without having the details explained.

He sighed, walking over to a chair and collapsing into it. "She went to meet him, Sir, and I followed her. And he tried to kill her, he was going to kill her," Fred's eyes met Dumbledore's briefly.

"...I couldn't let him," he mumbled.

McGonagall clearly looked as though she was not following at all, though she continually looked to Albus, trusting that he knew more than was being said.

The Headmaster simply walked over, searching Fred's face carefully. "I understand, and you will tell me more of that in a moment. But first, you must tell me, where is she now? Where is he?"

His eyes dropped as Dumbledore searched his face. "I left her in the hospital wing," he said quietly, "and he's by the Shrieking Shack."

He really, really didn't mean to. Really.

"We must go back," Dumbledore stated, informing McGonagall as much as himself before leaning in to speak with Fred again.

"The Ministry is certain to be there when we arrive. You must tell me precisely what happened. I require nothing less than the truth," he told Fred, his voice urgent in his desire to know how best to deal with those who would come to investigate.

"I couldn't stop hitting him," he shuddered, picturing the man's bloody face again. "He crucio'd me."

Fred was not talking in order. That wasn't what Dumbledore wanted. "First," he corrected. "He crucio'd me. And he hurt her.. he hurt her so much."

A few tears escaped Fred's eyes, dripping down his cheeks.

Dumbledore knelt in front of him then, placing his hands over Fred's in a calming motion.

"He is not hurting her now," he reassured him, "but I need to know everything if we are to avoid the worst for you both. What happened next..?" he prompted, needing only a bit more information before they returned to face the inquiries.

ooc: Me = her. *is a stupid, stupid ass*

The details were getting kind of fuzzy, Fred couldn't exactly remember.
"He was doing that, I tackled him.. couldn't stop hitting him."
He looked to the Headmaster with desperate eyes. "I didn't mean to," Fred repeated quietly, though he was pretty sure the man in front of him understood.

Dumbledore nodded in understanding, though he betrayed little of his thoughts on the matter through his expression.

Before he stood, he met Fred's eyes one last time with a level look, saying nothing more. Then, calling a thick set of robes to him, he dressed quickly against the cool weather he knew would be stirring outside and then looked ot Minerva.

"The students are under your care while I am gone. We shall return once the matter has been settled for the night," he informed her, and then turned back to Fred.

"We must go. Come with me," he instructed him, and then walked swiftly toward the door to exit his office.

Solemnly, he stood up, following the Professor out of the office, casting a quick look to McGonagall.

Fred had absolutely no idea what was going to happen...
