[Somewhere, a tumbleweed passes by.]

Um. Yeah, they've been here for a while. Not these particular ones, but others.

You know we look so much more alike now.

Really? I just thought...well I'm not sure anymore.

Your name is Jeff, right?

I'm gonna dye my hair brown and wear a labcoat now.

No, I get what you mean. When I first found out I was really surprised too.

That's me. And you're Dr. Emmerich, right? Um. Or Otacon.

Oh shiiiit.

I prefer the name Otacon. It's uh, nice to meet you Jeff. I apologize for the surprise at the idea of aliens. I used to dream about going to space as a child so the idea that they'd want to come down here, instead...

Yeah, nice to meet you too. Maaaan talking to time paradox people is so weird...

When you think about it, if we dream of leaving our own planet, why shouldn't it be the same on other worlds too? It's kind of sad though, that nobody's content with their homes... But at the same time, the need for more is why we have so many scientific advancements!

To be truthful it's not just a question of being content with our homes. In the eternal words of Carl Segan, Imagination will often carry us to worlds that never were. But without it we go nowhere.

I guess he says it a lot better than I ever could... Man, can you imagine what it would be like if nobody questioned anything? We'd probably still be in caves. Or maybe it's magical girls we have to thank for that.

Oh yeah, I remember a few years ago you helped me teach Samus' class one day using Gundam models. Er... I guess not you you, but the you who was here before. You know about how that kinda stuff happens here sometimes, right?

Well, there was a body-swap between me and Samus only a few people know about-- you're one of them-- so you helped me teach her class to help keep up appearances that week. And besides that, there was... uh...

You still know about Metal Gear, right?

[That was a lot of information to digest but he's going to believe him for now.]

...what do you know about Metal Gear?

I know my father was supposedly on the original dev team. I know it was a weapon of mass destruction masquerading as defense. I... know we built a smaller version that really was for peaceful purposes, along with another teacher who isn't here anymore.

What? None of that makes sense!

Why would I want to build a smaller Metal Gear? That's insane! I told myself I'd never build something like that again...

[But something is nagging him at the back of his mind. Just keep going at it, Jeff.]

This one didn't have any weapons installed. It was probably a little over half my size then... And I've grown a bit, so maybe waist-high now? Remote controlled and everything. You said you wanted a way to help your friends directly on the battlefield, even if you yourself couldn't be out there.
