My Alias Finale Rant

Dec 30, 2007 16:51

So I saw National Treasure 2 today, and I really liked it. I totally am interested by all that conspiracy theory stuff, and the movie delivered for me. Plus, Riley is hoooot (especially with the glasses) and I loved Abigail's wardrobe. It kind of reminded me of Chuck's (on Pushing Daisies), but not quite as good.

Since I finally finished all of Alias, I wrote a rant about the finale earlier in the month in the HMM, but I thought I'd post it here as well.

Gah, the end of S5 annoys me so much. What makes it even worse is the fact that I actually enjoyed most of the season. It dragged in the beginning, but with bringing Vaughn back and having Sark in a good amount of it (without making him pathetic like in season 3) and me actually not minding the newbies as much, it was getting pretty darn good. Definitely better than S3 IMO.

And then with the last 20 minutes of the finale, they just completely ruined everything. They absolutely destroyed Irina's character just because they were too lazy or stupid to figure out a way to resolve the whole Rambaldi plot otherwise, and made Sydney an orphan within a period of what, like a half hour? I still haven’t gotten over them killing SpyDaddy. :( I mean, the way they ended up doing it was absolutely the best thing they could have done, but I’m sure there was a way Jack could have trapped Sloane in the cave without killing himself. Syd did get a happy ending with Vaughn, which I was glad for (plus Sark lived), but gah, I just can’t stand what they did to Irina and Jack. It just completely goes against everything that the actors and the story portrayed in S2, and even up until S4. And once they "killed" Vaughn, the show started going downhill. So in my mind, Alias ends with S4, but before the car crash. Everyone is happy and alive. Except Sloane can die.

With regards to the whole Buffy S7 versus Alias S5 discussion from before I started watching Alias, I now have to say that even with the ending, Alias’ final season is far far far superior to Buffy’s. Although I may have hated parts of it (well, the very end), I still cared deeply about the characters and I was never bored. The last season of Buffy is basically a huge blur in my mind, and the characters almost never acted like themselves. I can name maybe 5 episodes of Buffy's last season, because it all was so stupid and repetitive. While Rachel and Tom were sometimes pointless and dumb characters, there was only two of them, unlike the countless Potentials. Plus, the so-called “happy ending” on Buffy just doesn’t compare. I’d rather have very strong feelings (of love and hate) about a show than apathy and annoyance, which is why I prefer the last season of Alias. Its highs were higher, and its lowers were lower, but at least there WAS some good in it.
