Heidi and I took Sunday off to walk around the French Quarter during the day to take pictures of the buildings and such. I felt like I was in a different country. All the buildings were all different colors, with all these green plants. The French Quarter did not get hit as bad as many other areas. We drove around for a bit and saw these amazing murals painted on big support poles under the highway. All the murals were historic New Orleans paintings, it was quite something. We then went to get some iced coffee and beinyettes(can’t spell, but they’re pastries loaded with powdered sugar) at this nice outdoor coffee place. Then it begins to start pouring, and it usually rains pretty heavily for ten minutes then stops and the sun comes out. This storm was a little more intense and it was some of the loudest thunder I’ve ever heard and I saw these huge lightening streaks across the sky and the wind was really intense. I kept my cool, but of course internally I’m thinking ‘okay what if this IS a hurricane?’ and then I commence to think of a whole plan in my head of what to do. Heidi and I were stuck under a overhang with two older gentlemen from Prague I believe. It was fun to live through but a bit nerve wracking. But I figure if the locals aren’t freaking out then I won’t either. I also ate some alligator bites yesterday they looked like chicken fingers, pretty good but rather chewy. We also discovered this nice quiet street one street over from Bourbon (a really louddisgustingsmellslikepeestreet) There were all these art galleries and we just looked in windows b/c most of the stores were closed. We then headed over to the Black Smith which I guess was the first bar ever in the U.S. The only lighting was by candles on each table, and it was all wood. Another thing down here is people are incredibly helpful, especially when it comes to directions. I really appreciate that, and they make sure you really know and understand their directions, and draw you maps.
We then got in free to this concert b/c the band put us on the guest list, and we also got free drinks from this band. It was kind of funny, but they were nice and not sketchy or anything. The place was pretty empty but it was nice venue but I guess it just opened.
I’m finally doing some much needed laundry.
We finished the mural Chelsea, Heidi and I. It looks nice.
Sitting next to my friend Greg in the computer lab-he’s a cool cat I guess.
I also took a van tour of St. Bernard Parish where we are working and there is still so so much devastations. Its been incredible to hear some stories of what people have gone through. I don’t want to hog this computer too long so tata for now.
