Not wholly unselfconscious attempt to start a MEME

This is Acclaimed Music's aggregate list of the top 107 albums of the 1990s (as of now). Put any that you own in bold. Put any that you have heard all through or used to own in italics. Put a strikethrough any that you hate (whether you've heard them or not!). Underline any you want to hear. And put an asterisk by any that you would count as one ( Read more... )

OMG you haven't heard Lauryn Hill you MUST MUST MUST!!!!!!

I am surprised you want to hear Liz Phair. I like it but you need to like listening to lyrics to enjoy it really, and tbh the Courtney/Tori/Polly axis are ridiculously far ahead of her.

She comes up SO MUCH as a referent that I feel I ought to hear it sometime!

I was going to strikethrough the Liz Phair album unheard, but I thought that was unfair as I only have an inkling I wouldn't like it (unlike, oh, say, RHCP).

The thing about the book meme was that it was kind of user generated, so there's assumed to be less posturing in a list of books that everyone says they own and haven't read than in yet another websites yet another best album's list. That said, thanks for it, and I will do it when I'm at a computer instead of my phone.

Posturing not on your part, obviously!

Well Acclaimed Music - much though I doubt the worth of its results - is an aggregate of loads of other lists, so it's as definitive a list of 90s "classics" as you're going to find.

I'm curious as to your defensive tone though Andrew - I filled in and enjoyed doing the book meme!

Ah right, sorry. I didn't see a link so I assumed it was a random list that was passing by.

I didn't mean to seem defensive, I feel no more 'ownership' in the book one - in fact less so, as I'm on nhw's friends list but not vice versa (because he posts a million things a minute). What I was, was rude. Sorry!

Also I was only then thinking through what I didn't realise I liked about the book one, that you have a different attitude to that list because of its origins - it's similar to say a list of the top 100 albums found in 2nd hand stores.

Also I was I suppose a little annoyed that no-one, my self included, really did anything with that difference, like figure out what it says that these books are the most unread. Which is not your fault!

Also also at the end of the day I'll be surprised if I'm surprised at any of my friends' reactions to these.

Well I'm pleased to note that I'm not the only one who's not yet heard Nevermind all the way through.

I have heard half of it at least, in fact I've probably heard every individual song on the thing, but never knowingly all the way through.
