Meant to make this post last weekend, but just as a recap I attended NYC Comic Con 2019 this past sunday. Got a late start in attending, job required being on a call in the morning... which wasn't completely awful since it meant I missed standing in line and I ultimately didn't stay until closing time so I think I pretty much got all I wanted out this year.
Convention... I don't know if it was just my state of mind or I've attended too many times, did not enjoy it as much I used to. And perhaps it was just because it was a sunday (usually known as the family day of the con, a lot of people with strollers) but didn't see as many costumes as I normally have - which meant fewer pictures (posted what I did take to facebook already).
Didn't buy much, bought a sketchbook from
James Silvani (he's done a lot of Disney comics, including Darkwing Duck - a collection I bought I think last year or the year before when he attended). Also bought a cute comic Petals (saw this for sale during my weekly comic shopping at Midtown Comics earlier this year or late last year, glad I decided against picking it up at that time because I was able to get this copy autographed by the creator), and lastly just a bunch of older comics I bought on the cheap - some I may have already owned but I felt like getting something more this year and picked out some various issues I thought I might enjoy.
But what really stood out was running into
mightyomnivore, haven't seen him in years (I think I last saw him was at another comic book event, MOCCANY, like... the better part of a decade back at least). Was walking past him and I looked at him like... is that Boomer? Luckily he recognized me and said something or I might have kept walking just thinking it weird I saw someone who looked familar :P
Chatted for a bit and caught up, he sounds like he's doing well but like a lot of the NY furs I used to know, have drifted their away and really don't interact with each other anymore.
So I'm feeling a bit jaded about the convention at this point, wondering if I should attend next year. I'll probably make an effort to attend again, at the very least it breaks up the routine and can have some surprises.
