This WOULD happen to me.
My phone has been acting up for a while--just losing charge faster than it should, and being way too quick on "Charge complete"....I mean, it had 1 bar of power left and 5 minutes later it's fully charged? SAY WHAT? NO. So, I went to my cell phone place to see if I was eligible to renew my plan and get a new phone. Yes, I was, but I wasn't supposed to be told this because I'm not "authorized" on my plan, and I have to get my mom to sign papers to be able to do this. Okay, fine. (Why they couldn't tell me that I can renew my plan anytime is beyond me but...)
ISSUES. My mother is in Florida at the moment on a band trip with my sister.
The chick tells me though that my dad is authorized on the plan. Awesome, because I didn't really want to drag my mother into this because she'd bitch about the price of the phone anyway. So the father and I went to the cell phone place Wednesday morning. I'm all excited, because, hey! New phone! And my mom won't know!
ISSUES. My father is authorized, but can't sign anything. He can pay the damn bill, but he can't sign to get me a new damn phone.
Then the shit hit the fan. The phone was starting to run out of battery power last night, and, thus, I plugged it in to charge. 4 hours later, I took it off, and it was still about to die. AWESOME.
So I call US Cellular to see if I can get authorized on the plan. Yes. I'm authorized.
ISSUES. The chick must have been misinformed, because she told me that because I'm authorized, I can go sign shit to get my phone.
I drive 20 minutes to the nearest cell phone place, to be told that yes, I'm authorized, but I still can't sign anything. Okay. Awesome. FML, right? I'm starting to get a little teary eyed. So i ask to get a new battery. "Well, we don't have them here.." (WHAT?) "...but the main store down the street does." So I go down the street.
ISSUES. I go to the store to get the battery, and the guy was like, "what were your issues with your phone? " I told him that it wasn't charging completely and wasn't holding charge as long as it should. He tells me that that's probably not a battery issue, and it's the phone.
FUUUUUUCK AND PISS. Now I'm doing all I can to hold back tears because please, this poor guy that had nothing to do with my phone breaking did not deserve a crying girl this early in the day--and it would have been slightly embarrasing. He must have noticed that I was about to lose it because he was like "Do you want a new phone?" "Yes, but I'm not allowed to sign anything." "Oh. Can your mom..." (at this point I told him that she was in Florida for a week. He looked nervous.) "...Oh. Um...well, do you have any US Cellular phones that we can put onto your account until she gets back?"
Thankfully I did, and now I am stuck with my little shitty freebie Keyocera thing that I had when I was 16. Which, okay, was like, 3 years ago, but still.
Also, I love that I have to stick with this damn phone, which, by the way, does not have an indoor charger anymore because while getting rid of some crap in my room this summer, I found it and was like 'Oh, well, I don't need this anymore, I have my Razor! *TOSS*"
And also I love that my mom gets back on Tuesday. I am in PELLA on Tuesday. For the rest of the week. I have to keep this POS phone for at least 8 more days. I'm upset, but it's more of the kind where you just smile and shake your head, all the while making up creative curses that would make a sailor blush.
