RP: High School Football Field - Runaways vs. Excelsiors

Apr 18, 2005 16:37

Nico Minoru and her friends really didn't need this. All they were trying to do was find Victor Mancha, a kid who was destined to grow up and become simultaneously the most power superhero and supervillain of all time. Granted, their approach of invading a high school football field to basically kidnap him was probably not the best way to go about it, but it wasn't as if they had a lot of options.

Sadly, a bunch of superheroes had decided to show up. A couple of them she recognized: Darkhawk's silver-and-black armor and helmet were hard to mistake, even if he hadn't been active in the last few years. The guy in the jacket with the glowing chest was Chamber, whom she'd recognized as a one-time X-Men who'd been in the tabloids in England for dating an obnoxious pop singer. But the woman with the flying armor, the reddish-blonde-haired girl who was levitating, and the guy with the white hair and the black jacket with discs on them ... she couldn't figure out who they were. Maybe they were newfound heroes; maybe they were just really obscure old-schoolers. The woman in the flight armor told them to leave Victor alone and act their age.

"Okay, I'm at a loss," Nico told her. "Who're you people?"

"We represent the group known as Excelsior. We're former superheroes, and we'd like to have a word with you."

That was about all Nico needed to know. "Sorry, not interested. We have more important things to do right now." Turning to the other runaways, she ordered, "everyone in the Leapfrog! Karolina, if you're still in the shape for it, see if you can carry Victor without hurting him more." Nico'd had to knock Victor out with a well-placed kick to the head since he was displaying a hint of godlike powers. "I'll cover our retreat!"

She raised her scepter, the mystical Staff of One, and focused her gift of sorcery into a single phrase designed to slow the approaching Excelsior people's approach by at least half: "~SL--~"

She'd been trying to say, 'slow motion', but an energy blast from the jewel on Darkhawk's chest blasted the staff out of her hand. The scepter tumbled end over end and landed several yards out of reach. "Uh-oh."
