[Scout will actually catch Ema on her way out of the house; when she opens the door, she has her coat on and a bag packed. Things have been... exciting in her house this morning and she doesn't plan on spending the night.

She blinks at the pair in disbelief, a whole gamut of emotions crossing her face ranging from relief to pain to anger to guilt. Finally, she just hugs him tightly. At the very least, she knows she can trust him... the three of them were family, once. And both Scout and Ai have proven that she means something to them.]

I should have seen it coming. I'm sorry.

[Oh hey, have a nod. She's right behind Scout, he probably hasn't seen her yet.]

[Scout has't seen Ai yet, and he's thrown off guard for a moment by the hug. He returns it, though.]

Hey, hey. Neither of us thought he'd be so dumb, right? Don't worry about it.

[Ema releases him fairly quickly, giving him a weak smile.] Still. He really... played us for the fool, you know?

At least we know better now.

[She turns to Ai then, crouching and giving the girl the same smile she's just given Scout.] And it's been awhile since I've seen you. How have you been?

[Scout turns around, but he's not surprised to see Ai. He's used to her just showing up by now.] Oh, hey, kiddo.

Ed's the fool if ya ask me. That dumbass. Did he really think that was gonna get him somewhere?!

[To Ai:] Considering how I saw you last time? I'm glad.

[She stands up to face Scout.] I... honestly don't know. He wanted to explain himself. I didn't let him. [She doesn't elaborate beyond that, not necessarily eager to share the fact that Schuldig spent the morning playing with her head. And, even if she's not thinking quite as vindictively as she was earlier in the day, some of the effects are still there. She sighs heavily.]

I just... I trusted him. You did, too. And we... maybe we got what we deserved for not being more careful.

Not to mention the fact that I screwed up from the jump; even if he hadn't betrayed us, I was reckless and got myself caught and Klavier killed...

I'm actually on my way to apologize to him. Do you want to walk with me?

[Scout will follow along with Ema.] Yeah, he explained it ta me, but all I learned is what a dumbass he really is.

Did somethin' really happen ta him? Damn. That Lucy is one scary... whatever she is.

[To Ai:] Eddie came up wit' this plan ta take a look 'round the Smith's house, but instead called Grady in ta try 'n' make himself look good. Grady killed us both, an' probably Eddie too. Serves 'im right.

[Ema starts walking, then, albeit slowly.] I... just don't know what he expected to happen beyond us getting killed. Himself included, after his sudden decision not to stand for it. [She sighs heavily and shakes her head.]

Basically, Ai, we trusted the wrong guy. That's what it boils down to.

He wanted ta make himself look good fer Grady. Or so he told me. I dunno where he got the idea that Grady'd ever be on our side.

[She remains quiet for a while]

....I see.

[Yeah, someone is getting a visit tomorrow.]

[Ema pulls her coat closer to herself as they continue walking, not really wanting to dwell on last night if she can avoid it.]

At... least I still have you two. You're both smarter than that. Better than that.

[Right now? That means an awful lot.]

[Scout playfully punches Ema's shoulder.] 'Course! We just gotta be more careful from now on, I guess. I can't believe in a place like this, that people would think there's more than two sides here. There's us, an' there's them. That's it.
