He refuses to give him the satisfaction of being miserable. Cold weather? Not a problem. This guy is from Boston. Demeaning costume? Whatever, it's Christmas! He knows, much like everyone else,

They don't got it where yer from or somethin'? It's only kinda the best holiday. Everyone's offa school 'n' work, an' ya get presents and eat a lotta food. Can't go wrong with that!

Oh yeah, Santa's the guy who brings ya presents.

No, never heard of it until recently. ( hope blinks, but nods a little. )

So it's sort of like that Thanksgiving holiday, but with presents?

Yeah! Kinda. 'Cept, ya know, this is Mayfield, so I'm sure there's gonna be, like, explodin' presents or some crap. They always know the best way ta ruin a good time.

Yeah. They're, uh, really good at doing that. One of our turkeys was full of blood.

( a pause, then a stare at scout. ) Um, what are you supposed to be dressed as?

Blood? Yeah, that sounds 'bout right. I just got rid 'a ours before one could turn into a zombie turkey 'r whatever.

This? This is Grady's idea of a dumb joke, that's what it is. I'm one 'a Santa's merry little helpers, ya know. [So he says oh-so-sarcastically.]

Yeah, see he decided on makin' me into one 'a his police cronies, an' this is our first assignment. But if he thinks wearin' a stupid costume is the worst I gotta worry about in this town, he's got another thing comin'.
