a short news article from the associated press on recent gas price increases. why do they keep increasing? its not like a hurricane just knocked out some oil refineries in the south, thats was last year. its not winter anymore, so you cant say its jumping because people are using more gas to heat up thier homes. what is it then? springs right around the corner, and i want to know why gas prices keep jumping...oh wait, ive got it figured out...must be the trout fisherman, who are driving up the price because they all want to get out now that its nice and go fishing. otherwise, i cant think of a damn thing as to why its gone up. people need to demand more of thier government to step in. oil companies posted record profits last year, and thats ridiculous when we are the ones paying for it. people have just gotten so complacent about gas prices now, that no one questions why they go up when they do. we need to make a bigger deal out of this, otherwise we are just going to continue to be used by the big oil companies, so they can make billion upon billions of dollars each year.

a short clip on bush's recent domestic wiretapping. yeah, thats right, you heard me. americans spying on americans. totally illegal, totally unconstitutional, and yet, bush is getting away with it. its more of people being complacent. what is this, 1984? do we need to watch how we think or else be arrested? you think its far fetched, but orwell hit the nail on the head on this one. hes probably rolling over in his grave, wondering how he could have predicited this to a t. see below, the 4th link.

ah, the wonders of the patriot act. how have we as a people allowed this to come about? this is just the first step towards 1984, letting the government get away with what used to be illegal search and seizures, but are now made legal by one piece of paper. it seems that the very freedoms that we are now giving up and the very same freedoms that we are supposedly fighting the terrorists for. so how does that work? lets break it down mathematically: freedom (the ones we are fighting to keep from the terrorists) + "patriot"
act = loss of the very same freedoms we are fighting to keep the terrorists from taking away from us. plus, bush now thinks he doesnt need congress to approve of his powers. so much for 2/3 balancing out the other, especially in a republican controlled congress. add to that 2 new chief justices appointed by bush and youve got a regular republican circus of a democracy. hey, i love how if you dont agree with an act called the "patriot act," youre not a patriot if you dont support it. in fact, if your against the war, youre for the terrorists. people can be so easily led sometimes. wake up and think for yourselves, stop being led around blindfolded just because youre told to.

an article on the similarities between the "patriot" act and hitlers "enabling act." now you may say that thats a drastic comparison, but if you actually read it, youll be unpleasantly shocked. its long, and im sure you wont read it, so ill give you the highlights. please, for your own sake, read it.

-"February 28, 1933, president Hindenburg and Hitler invoked Article 48 of the Weimar Constitution, which permitted the suspension of civil liberties during national emergencies. Some examples of this Decree of the Reich President for the Protection of the People and State abrogated the following constitutional protections: Freedom of the press, free expression of opinion, individual property rights, right of assembly and association, right to privacy of postal and electronic communications, states´ rights of self-government, and protection against unlawful searches and seizures."

: smells like the patriot act to me. same unlawful search and seizures now made legal.

-"In order to accomplish all this, Hitler said, he first needed the Enabling Act. Since this act would alter the German constitution, a two-thirds majority was necessary."

: 2/3rds, just like our how our laws are passed into effect.

yes, the bush admin is in the pocket of the rich, giving out tax breaks that help the already rich more than those in acutal need of it. same ideas as the nazi party, big business' side.

"Statement Number One: "The people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. It works the same way in any country."

Statement Number Two: "To those who scare peace-loving people with phantoms of lost liberty, my message is this: Your tactics only aid terrorists, for they erode our national unity and diminish our resolve."

The first statement is a quote from Hitler's right hand man, Hermann Goering, explaining at his war crimes trial how easily he and his fellow Nazis hijacked Germany's democratic government. The second statement is a quote from Bush's right hand man, John Ashcroft, defending the Patriot Act and explaining why dissent will no longer be tolerated in the age of terrorism. If that doesn't send chills down your spine, nothing will."

: there you go; call the pacifists "unpatriotic" and bam, youve got scapegoats. saying that if you dont support the war youre for the other side is just a way for leaders to manipulate the easily led, and therefore get away with whatever they want once they have ultimate power. with bush now ignoring congress for his laws (or the U.N, for invading Iraq), it seems he is well on his way to establishing total control.

"When the shooting started at Lexington Green in 1775, those calling themselves patriots were the men and women who refused to yield their rights to an increasingly oppressive government. Today, according to John Ashcroft and his Patriot Act of 2001, a patriot is someone who kneels down in fear, and hands over his or her rights to the government in the name of fighting terrorism."

: if you are a patriot, you will agree with that paragraph ;p (a little reverse psycology) now, if youre a patriot, you will read this next paragraph and be shocked.

im not going to give you the entire article, but if you dont read it all, at least read the part titled "10 key points of the patriot act" just to see the freedoms you have given up in the name of fighting terrorism.

opinions, whether agreements or dissents, are welcome. please, no anonymous bashing. if you feel so inclined as to not leave your name, dont stoop to name calling.
