Still alive. I dropped out of Nanowrimo to take care of myself because I felt like adding additional stress to my life would only be bad and I’ve pretty much proven I can write for the rest of the year, anyway. Nanowrimo is great, but if you write year-round, it’s not much but a bunch of people trying to motivate you and telling you to write. My contrary nature really, really doesn’t do well with that.
Also, having some health issues. I went to a doctor last month who did nothing but take some blood, tell me to knock off the salt, and keep a headache diary. Even though I told her ibuprofen and Excedrin do nothing to knock the pain and nausea, she didn’t prescribe me anything. Consequently, when I had a debilitating migraine to the point where I was on the bathroom floor crying, I wasn’t too fond of her. Even worse? She wasn’t in my network, so I have some fun out of pocket fees. Last Saturday, I went to another guy who was in my network and he prescribed me some pretty heavy pain meds and muscle relaxants. Also, I have hypertension. So dropping Nanowrimo? Really great idea.
They put me on some beta blockers and I’m watching my sodium like a hawk, but it’s an adjustment, and I’m glad I have a little more time for myself. Unfortunately at the same time, I haven’t had much to say. Part of it is pure and simple lack of motivation: I have done nothing but read books and watch TV and browse Tumblr and go to work. The beta blockers make me feel both tired and super-manic at the same time, and finishing the simplest task feels like running a marathon.
Next month, I’m taking trips to California and Chicago. I’ll be in northern Cali for a few days, where I’ll get to see my two best friends, and then in Chicago, so if anybody up there wants to meet up for coffee, let me know.
Fandom-wise, I’m starting to like Agents of SHIELD a little, though they have a while to go before they can be considered a good show. I’m still for jettisoning half of the cast, but now instead of Melinda May as the main character, I’d accept Jemma Simmons. Arrow continues to be my favorite, and if you’re not watching Brooklyn Nine-Nine, it’s hands down the best new show of the year.
How’s everybody else?
