He'll Be Less Happy When He Sees Season Three

Saw Iron Man Three. It was okay.

Now, granted, Tony is my second-least favorite Avenger anyway (least favorite being Thor; he's boring), and my favorite parts of the second movie don't involve a regular Iron Man universe character anyway, so you had to figure that would happen. Parts of it made me uncomfortable, parts of it made me laugh ( Read more... )

- hah, really? To me it was...really, really obvious, right down to Killian's first appearance (of course he has to be SCRUFFY as he limps, he can't possibly own a suit and still limp, nooooooope. Ugh, movie). But difference in perspective! It's a funny thing. And like, I kinda feel like there was a....point to be made about an ableist society creating its demons, that there are so many angry and hurt people who have lost limbs (or have other physical ailments) who feel like (who ARE, in a lot of cases) thrown away, and then Killian comes all with charm and a fix...

But unlike with the Mandarin (which I thought was BRILLIANT commentary and awesome, except for some plot-holes from the first movie I'm trying to fix), if there was a point to which ableism was supposed to be sign as 'bad', it kinda got...lost in how the NARRATIVE was treating everyone who had a physical disability. And also, yeah, that the people who society tends to think of as being 'lesser' were then stripped of their personality...

*hands*

I just really want to know if the Extremis taps into the rage/adrenaline quandary and that's why all of these people had no problems killing everybody like that.

....I didn't think of that, but if it's a body-wide thing, then it must be affecting their brains, which could explain that. And if anything in the body can be reprogrammed...thaaaaaaaaaat could be interesting. And Killian WAS showing Pepper his brain, so, hmmmmmmm!

(I didn't think Maya was infected, though. And I'm STILL annoyed that Tony Stark gave Maya Hansen her Great Break-through, and that she needed Tony Stark to fix HER work. Just, seriously movie? seriously?)

...um sorry, I have a lot of feelings about this aspect of the movie, ahah (she says, soaking her slightly fucked up feet in hot water to ease muscle-pain). But I'm with you on the minions aspect, so much.

Oh! I getcha now, re: Downton Abbey. Ahahhah, I didn't think of it like that before. Approve :D

Those are very good point about ableism. In truth, isn't that something a lot of comics tackle: the people we ignore/take advantage of/sideline will come be our personal demons? Hell, that's the entire plot of The Incredibles, with Syndrome.

Well, Extremis starts with programming in the brain, apparently. He was talking about putting programs into the empty slots in the brain (I know Kung Fu!), while I'm guessing Maya's work is more to do with the actual cell structure of a living organism. So her work in conjunction with the brain programming from the think tank is how I'm choosing to see it. It's all very fascinating.

And the thing you bring up about Tony giving her the breakthrough is kind of why Tony is my second least-favorite Avenger. He can do everything. Like this movie, for instance. He was pulling off some pretty impressive out-of-the-suit fighting moves. It was neat to watch, but I don't know, tripped into too perfect territory for me sometimes. Between that and the amount of punishment his body took (his house exploded, he destroyed a small Tennessee town, variou other things he did), I was a little like, "Waaaaait a second."

But whatever. Michelle Dockery is a Marvel person and it's my new headcanon that Natasha meets her once and Clint is unhappy because Natasha didn't get him her autograph.

Exactly. And I really think that the movie was...trying to set something up? But then it got lost. Tony maaaaay have worked out he did two jerk-moves, but not how it fits in to a wider pattern of behaviour, either for himself or the world at large.

...that said, I want the fic where he gets his head out of his ass and starts using his tech-skills to make amazing prosthetics for people, so he's actually HELPING the same people Killian took advantage of. THAT could be a really interesting thing to see, you know?

Re: Maya, oh, yes, that all fits in. And that makes a lot of sense. Gah, oh MAYA. And her face when he's accusing her of having no morals - she's just going 'a) I'm trying to stop people from dying, and b) dude, not all of us genius scientists came with a billionaire's fortune here, jackass'. I love Maya.

Yeah, Tony, I just...I am taking a lot of pleasure out of having him be WRONG in my de-aged Nat story. He has some insights, but he's also wrong. Because maaaaaaaaaaaaaan I'm sick of it. The fighting moves, I really think Pepper and Tony have been hanging around Nat and Clint - your superfriends, as Happy puts it, but it's a way to explain some of it. That, and Tony's played a looot of video games.

Which is why I'm so happy that they've made him give up the suits and the arc-reactor - it's a way to bring him back down. I really, really hope that it sticks.

Yesssssssssssss :D And Nat is going 'hi you were the best Susan Sto Helit' at her.
