Title: Complicated Things Involving Hot Blondes, 2.0
Word Count: 250
Rating: PG
Fandom: Chuck
Pairings: Chuck/Sarah
Warnings: Spoilers for all of Chuck, through Season Three of Fringe.
Summary: Rule one of being a nerd: re-watching things is okay. Especially if you don’t remember the first time.
Author’s Notes: If this looks familiar, it’s because it is. I wrote the original scene (
here) for a
writerverse challenge that has three parts. The first challenge was to write a 500 word story. The second part is to change that to 250 words. I did that by only changing minimal dialogue and seeing if I could still get the subtext into the scene. Thanks to
bdaddydl and
lefthanded0 for the original prompt!
“Wait, who’s the redhead?”
Chuck paused the screen on a lens flare. “That’s Olivia.”
“No, that’s…Fo-fo-livia? B-Olivia? The other Olivia!”
“Fauxlivia. But that’s Olivia.”
“Argh.” Sarah grimaced. “I remember Olivia being blonde, I’m pretty sure.”
“She was, but she dyed her hair to infiltrate Fauxlivia’s world. Now she’s a redhead, and Fauxlivia’s a blonde.”
“There are DARPA briefings less confusing than Fringe.”
“And right now Olivia thinks that she’s actually Fauxlivia. That’s why Peter keeps doing the ‘I’m clearly losing my mind’ trick where somebody disappears when a bus goes by.” Chuck smiled at her aggravation.
“And everybody thinks she’s Fauxlivia?”
“Everybody except Broyles, yes,” Chuck said. Sarah looked puzzled. “The guy from The Wire.”
Since they’d watched The Wire After Quinn, Sarah’s face cleared. “Oh! Her boss.”
“Right.”
“And Fauxlivia is completely fine with an impostor living her life?”
“Seems to be. But you know what?” He moved to stand.
“What are you doing?”
“Starting with season one again.”
“No, I don’t want to make you watch it again.”
“It’s been like eighteen months since we watched the first two seasons.” When her frown didn’t abate, Chuck poked her. “Rule one of nerd-dom: re-watching things is it’s encouraged.”
“But you shouldn’t have to do things again because I don’t remember them.”
Chuck held up the DVD with Olivia Dunham on it. “My life proves that complicated things involving hot blondes in no way equals a hardship.”
“You’re lucky I love you.” She stuck her tongue out at him.
