travel plans and paint
this morning chatted to Dad about possible routes for when he and mum come to see me in Russia. they'd like to come by boat to Finland, visit Dad's friend out there, and continue into Russia by train. i'd meet them in St Petersburg according to Dad's plan. i think they should be ok getting into Russia, as usually one of the staff speaks English, but i'm wondering whether it would be better if i went to meet them; it might make things easier for them. on the other hand, they're not exactly inexperienced travellers, so i'm sure they'd be ok. *indecision*
then they'd like to stay in Peterburg for a couple of days, and i'd like to take them to Moscow, and Tver (where i'll be living on my next study placement). if possible i'm going to take them to see a ballet in the Bolshoi, or the Kirov-Mariinsky so i'm hoping they give me the dates soon, as the famous theatres get booked up very quickly for good ballets. i'm not sure what they'd like to see most, but i think i'd like to see Sleeping Beauty if possible; it's the ballet that inspired Anna Pavlova to become a dancer. i'll check out the respective websites in a minute.
i'll try and arrange most of it when i'm out there, as that'll be easier. they're hoping to travel back to England through Europe, and drop in on some places they'd like to see, like Prague, Warsaw, Venice etc. i really hope they get to do it all.
hopefully, if i get a job in Russia after i graduate, they'll be able to come out and see me for the New Year celebrations, which would be lovely, as they'd get to see how beautiful everything is in winter, especially the forests :)
then went shopping to Thornbury with mum, saw some cool stuff in Oxfam, and bought some green tea with orange and pineapple extracts, which is just like the gorgeous green tea i had in a Russian coffee house, so really pleased with that :)
it's reallllly cold at in my room at the moment, and i want to have a hot bath and read Stalin, but i should paint the downstairs toilet walls today for M&D, so i'll do that first and then reward myself with a bath.. it'll save Dad the trouble of getting tetchy if i do it in that order too, bless :D
