Up until very recently I didn't see the point of meeting any trek actors at all. There is a slating post from me from about a year ago on Trek BBS stating that point of view. We can never own the actors, only the characters. We must let the gods who portray them be real life human beings, who have all moved on from trek apart from the odd appearence at a Con, and who if we put them on a pedestal would fall right off again.
So why then, nearly a fortnight after meeting Kate Muldrew and the others, am I still in a hideous post Con slump? Why does it matter that I met her (and them) and why am I pining for them to return to the UK more quickly than has happened previously?
They are surely their own people, the face they portray at public events is part of what they do best, which is to act. None of us see the real them, if we did they'd snarl on a bad day and generally be as crappy as we are. They can't be who they are to us 24/7, that was what all the dashes to the private room were about, and the holidays in Ireland or wherever that followed. Down time. I suspect we wouldn't want to follow and see our gods become mere mortals.
I know all that in my head. So why the slump? Beats me.
