Yesterday! or, well, Wednesday night, I went to see the
Really, Really Ridiculously Goodlooking Tour in San Francisco!
The will-call line was really, really ridiculously long, as a result of which
afterthefair and I met up there and had to wait quite a while before going to find the others. But eventually we got our tickets and went over to the other line and joined up with
lovelypoet,
clumsygyrl, and
sandwich-armada, whom I got to meet for the first time and who is both elegant and awesome. And also Cristen's friend who I believe is not on LJ but was likewise delightful. And then not long afterwards we got to go in and established a spot about halfway back, which in Slim's meant really still nice and close.
I was in line at the Cobra merch table for a fair amount of the Cab's set, but I managed to gather that they are tiny and enthusiastic and adorable. I have not yet learned to match all their names with their faces, but I'm sure that will come in time. Though to be honest I'm feeling a little arm's-length-ish about them, as I kept thinking OMG you are just barely over half my age. But anyway, good times.
We The Kings did not make a very deep impression on me musically, BUT, their lead singer pulled off his long-sleeved shirt a song or two into their set to reveal AN NSYNC T-SHIRT underneath. As a special treat for us, the San Francisco crowd, he said. I screamed really unironically. I love Nsync, y'all. I kept trying to make out the guys' faces on the shirt.
Somewhere in there a guy brushed by us, and while I was still on huh that profile looks familiar, Katie said, "Hi, Nate," cool as cucumbers. He looked back and said "Hi" all casual-like and continued on, and we all made O.O eyes at each other.
I really enjoyed Metro Station's set, so much so that I went over to their merch table and bought the CD. I do like a bit of melody to my rock! I think possibly I was the one most into them out of our little group.
And then finally it was time for COBRA STARSHIP! They were incredibly awesome, and there was a fair amount of banter. Gabe was on Victoria's case pretty heavily - "Did you say something, Victoria? Did you want some water, Victoria? [he actually held the bottle to her lips for her to drink from] You guys ruined my only chance at making out with Victoria!" She was a very good sport about it and let him lean on her and wrap his arm around her neck from behind and all kinds of cuddling.
Towards the end of the show Gabe also started to direct his attentions to Alex, who was rather more eye-rolly about it, especially when Gabe yanked on his (Alex's) tie repeatedly. But it was very cute when Gabe held the purple tie up to his own purple hoodie and exclaimed, "We match!" Gabe also gave Ryland a long hug. Nate was the only one safe behind his kit.
Ryland said, "Delicious" for us once (the way Guy taught him), and he also led the band in the alternate commercial version of "PEP- PEP- PEP- PEP- PEPPERONI!" which was really excellent.
Victoria had her hair up and looked beautiful and told us to put our hands in the air AND put them together. And she was just incredibly gracious towards Gabe and kindly turned her back to him so he could do the arm-wrap thing.
There was a good bit of discussion about the impending Valentine's Day, and Gabe at one point told us all to grab the person closest on our right or left and start making out with them. For me that happened to be Katie, so I gave her a little kiss on the cheek, you know, because Gabe said so. (Note: Gabe is apparently less picky in this regard than
Pete, who told us to make out with the girls we'd come there with.) This was when Gabe complained about not getting to make out with Victoria.
And, um. What else? After "Smile for the Paparazzi" Gabe also complained about having to sing a cuss word and asked if they couldn't change "shit" to "doody" instead, and then he went into a weird kid voice for a few sentences which was kind of very freaky. And at another point earlier the guys broke out into a rousing chorus of "She'll Be Coming Round the Mountain When She Comes", although I missed whatever led into that so I don't know if it was specifically aimed at Victoria or not.
Anyway, they were really incredibly fabulous and I danced and sang along and pumped my fist in the air like no one was watching. And it was marvelous and I enjoyed myself mightily.
And THEN I gave Cristen a ride home and on the way she told me all about one of her bunnies and it is SO COOL, I need this fic desperately. Cristen, send me words in my mailbox! and I will send you back beta that says "this part is awesome, and this part too, and that part and that and that all rock!" 'Cause I'm helpful like that.
And I think that's it.
