Got one of those transponders that lets you fly through tolls? Nifty, aren't they? Yes, Big Brother is watching you, but perhaps not as carefully as you thought. I called to update my credit card info, and because I didn't have my account number, the service rep had to look me up by name. Except that someone had changed my address. And added a Honda Civic with a transponder to my account. Several years ago, perhaps. I thought my account was being replenished rather too often, but we always seemed to have a trip to Boston to account for it, and the charges weren't outrageous. And they long ago stopped sending me a printed, itemized receipt, though I kept requesting them (they were probably sending them to the other person). It doesn't appear to be malicious (except that the other person with my name never reported her free rides). And they're trying to figure out how to refund my money. BUT: if you have such an automatic payment scheme, call every so often. Verify your account info. ALL of it. It's worth the hassle.
