Conference / vacation plans

Well, as some of you may already know, my annual conference is in Honolulu this June! I'm looking forward to getting back to Hawaii for the first time in 19 year.

Here's my dilemma. I'll spend a week in Honolulu/Waikiki for the conference. During that time I'll have a couple of days to myself, which I pretty much have planned already. I did the North Shore and Hanama Bay when I was on Oahu 19 years ago.

After the conference I'm taking an additional 7 days to get to a couple other islands and see more of Hawaii than I have in the past. So here's the real question, I'm looking for input on which ones to visit.

I've pretty much decided I'll be going to Maui first. The hostel I'll be staying in runs various tours, one of which is a Haleakala volcano tour. I could easily spend all 7 days on Maui, but would like to see at least one other island.

My dilemma is should I go to Kauai or the Big Island? I've gotten votes for both depending on who I talk to. So, if you've been out there and want to cast a vote, chime in. I'm not into lots of night life and going out, so I'm looking more at what's around to do and go see in each location.
