Итак, прошло полтора года с того злополучного дня, когда Серенького сбила машина. Мы вместе с ним пережили множество тягот, связанных с тяжелейшей травмой позвоночника и осложнениями. Всё приходилось узнавать методом проб и ошибок. Толковых советов по уходу за котятами с такой тяжёлой травмой найти не удалось. Люди просто не пишут подробностей, да и ситуация у каждого своя, уникальная. И в нашей вет. клинике тоже особо посоветовать ничего не могли, так как опыта лечения и дальнейшего ведения таких котят у них прежде не было. Так что приходилось буквально жить одним днем, решать проблемы по мере их поступления и строить свою собственную систему ухода, опираясь на приобретенный опыт.
A year and a half has passed by since that unfortunate day when Serenky was hit by a car. Together we had to go through a lot of hardships due to severe trauma of his spinal cord and multiple complications in connection with it. We had to learn how to take care of him ad hoc* just following trial and error path. We searched high and low but could not find truly useful and practical advice as to take care of the cats with such severe spinal trauma. People simply don’t record the details and each situation is very unique. Our vet clinic also could not give us any specifics concerning his daily routine care. So, we had to live just one day at a time, sort the problems out as they appeared and invent our own care system basing on gained experience.
*Ad Hoc is Latin and means 'to this'
It is used to indicate something that is done at the time without planning ahead of time.
Котеночек обзавелся внушительным приданым: кроваткой, коляской, колёсиками для ходьбы, постельными принадлежностями, полотенцами, посудой, одёжками и игрушками…
Our kitten acquired considerable “dowry” :) his own bed, all kinds of bedding (soft mattress, mattress covers, liners, blankies and pillows), towels, hygiene products, food & water dishes, stroller, wheels for walking, clothes and toys…
Весной прошлого года, когда еще было прохладно, я вывозила его на веранду в его постельке, одев в пальто и закутав в теплое одеяло. Малыш был страшно рад свежему воздуху и смене обстановки.
When the weather was still pretty cool in his first Spring after the accident, I dressed Serenky warmly in his coat, wrapped him in the fluffy blanket and wheeled him in his bed out on the patio. Our baby boy was so glad to get some fresh air and change of scenery.
Летом он гулял под деревьями в огороженном пространстве
In the summer he was spending time out in the garden under the trees in the play pen
или на изволил почивать в тенечке на веранде,
or deigned to snooze in the shade on the patio,
или с комфортом прохлаждался на коляске среди буйства цветов.
or cooled his jets in the comfort of his stroller among the blooming flowers.
Когда на улице сухо и не очень жарко, он отправляется на лужайку в сад и с удовольствием ходит там, грызя травку и кошачью мяту, а потом играет там с другими котятами в охоту за огоньком лазерной указки.
When it is dry and not too hot outside he goes to the garden on his little wheels and happily walks around on the lawn munching on the grass and catnip and playing with other kitties hunting the elusive light of the laser pointer.
В хорошую погоду, в качестве фитнеса, я катаю его в коляске по дорожке в саду по часу-два. Он обожает кататься в коляске. Свешивает ручки вниз и балдеет от скорости.
When the weather is decent, for my own fitness sake, I wheel him around on the path in the garden for an hour or two. He totally loves to ride in his stroller hanging his little paws down and wigging out from speed.
А в холодное время года активно ползает дома по полу в трусиках и специальном платьице-мешочке, предохраняющим лапки и животик от потертостей и загрязнений, охотится за другими котятами, пьет воду из общей миски,
Come cold season, he busily moves around the house dressed in his own pantie-pampers and special dress that protects his legs and tummy from abrasions and soiling. All the while he hunts after other kitties, drinks water from other kitties bowl,
играет с братиком Чёрненьким (Дружком) в обнимашки-подирашки,
plays hug&tussle games with his brother Chornenky (Druzhok),
гоняет мячики, точит коготки, кушает
chases balls, sharpens his claws, dines in style
позирует мне в разных версиях платьица-мешочка, дизайн которого у меня находится в постоянной разработке
poses for me in different versions of protective dresses, design of which I still keep perfecting

и делает другие важные кошачьи дела.
and conducts a lot of other very important kitty business.
И еще, он у нас путешественник. Поскольку одного дома его оставлять нельзя и в клинику его отвозить совершенно не хочется, когда в этом нет особой необходимости, он стал ездить с нами в короткие путешествия в ближайший лес за грибами,
On top of all of that, he is a traveler. Because we cannot leave him home alone and we don’t want to board him in the clinic without real need, he goes with us on the short trips to the forest to mushroom hunt,
и на более дальние расстояния на пару дней и к настоящему дню побывал в двух штатах и восьми городах, в четырех из них на побережьи Тихого океана.
and to longer distances for a couple of days and to this date he visited two states, eight cities, four of them on the Pacific Coast.

He loves to ride in the car, taking pleasure in looking out of the window on surrounding scenery, wild life,

Во время путешествий он еще получает море любви и восхищения от совершенно посторонних людей, которые при виде котеночка в коляске буквально светлеют лицами и улыбаются круче чеширских котов :)
While traveling he gets tons of love and admiration from the people around, which smile even wider then Cheshire Cat when they see our kitten in the stroller riding about.
Для того, чтобы малышу было комфортно в поездках, мы берем с собой его кроватку, коляску и целый рюкзачок с необходимыми вещами. Так что в гостинице он ночует в своей постельке, прямо как дома.
To keep our baby boy as comfortable as possible during our long distance travels we bring his bed and back pack stuffed with his belongings, necessary for daily care. So that in hotels he sleeps in the comfort of his own bed just like at home.
Постелька стоит у гостиничного окна с видом на океан
The bed is placed by the hotel’s room window overlooking the ocean
В путешествиях мы водим его в туалет и делаем необходимые процедуры на пеленальном столике для младенцев :), используя нашу специальную подстилку, или, если это возможно и на улице тепло, на какой-нибудь лужайке, вдали от скопления людей и зверей.
During the travels we take him to the bathroom and do all the necessary cleaning on the baby changing station, using our own special liner or, if possible and it is not too cold, on some lawn secluded from other people and pets.
Нагулялись, а теперь надо передохнуть и побаловаться мороженым. Ах, как вкусно! :)
Tired from walking and sightseeing? Time to take a break and indulge in a yummy ice cream. Oh, so good! :)
В общем, мы с котенком живем полной жизнью, насколько это возможно в нашей ситуации и планируем продолжать в том же духе :)
All in all, we live a very full life with our kitten making the very best of our situation and will continue to do so with the same spirit :)
