[Pendergast's comm is sitting outside, rather enjoying the view of the ocean. It seems to be set up on a rock or some slanted pile, and the frame is simply part sand, part surf, all tranquility ( Read more... )

[ If Pendergast cares to look towards the water again he will find a distinctly crocodile-ish looking log swimming in the shallow water.

It turns and seems to pause for a moment, clearly marvelling at the sight of the agent in his shorts. Eventually it starts slowly drifting towards the shore. ]

[ Oh please, she's not lost or lost to anybody at all. She's a big girl and she can go for a swim by herself if she likes.

Besides, Bhamba is too busy to play with her today anyway.

Speaking of which, it seems this person is paying attention to her. Slowly she drags her body out of the water and turns her head towards Pendergast, greeting him with a loud exhale. ]

[He stands his ground. He knows how to deal with crocodiles back home, but this one seems intelligent somehow. After all, how many crocs would willingly protect people in a zombie invasion?]

Can you understand me?

[Hey, it's worth asking.]

[ Well. Yes, but she's not a great conversationalist.

She gets words, thanks to the CED, but replying isn't usually something Bhamba requires of her, so figuring out how to do that or if it's worth the trouble at all, takes Amy a while.

At first she draws her body out of the water fully, the whole 12 ft, impressively laid out on the beach before Pendergast.

She hisses. For her this is yes enough, but Pendergast may not be that fluent in Crocodile. ]

[That she reacted at all speaks volumes; he doesn't assume the hiss meant anything beyond "yes", but it's a sort of generalized thought ('maybe if I wiggle a bit and then hiss it'll mean yes', not that that thought went through his head).

He nods at the crocodile without feeling the tiniest bit silly, raises an eyebrow, kneels. Very slowly and carefully, he holds out one hand.]

[ Granted, drawing the body out of the water was something she intended to do anyway to show off, not a whole lot of linguistics involved in that.

She's glad the rest of the message got through though and-- right, uhm, the hand is going to be a problem. Clearly there is no food in it.

Does that mean the hand itself is to be taken as food?

He's got another one, so surely he wouldn't miss it that much?

...sadly Bhamba was very, very explicit about not eating other people or parts thereof unless in self-defense, Bhamba-defense or with his expressed permission.

Sooooo, moving forward a bit and letting him pet her? Sure, let's go with that. ]

[Careful as always, he touches the end of her snout, running his long fingers up her scales. He raises an eyebrow and the tiniest half-smirk touches his lips.]

Doesn't the climate here bother you?

[Not waiting for an answer, he stands again, stepping over her and really gauging her gigantic size.] Not that it seems to have bothered you too much. You're quite healthy.

[Stepping back over her, he leans down and runs his fingers over her back, then straightens up and smiles very briefly at her.] I'm impressed.
