A Letter from USC
A record number of students have applied for our various merit scholarship programs. For the Trustee [half scholarship and Presidential scholarships [full scholarship], we have narrowed down a pool of over 17,000 December 10th applicants to the group of 1,200 who will proceed to the next phase of consideration for these awards.
Andrew, I am sorry to say that you were not selected for further consideration for either of these two scholarships...
I know I shouldn't be frustrated or deeply disappointed by this, trusting that this is all part of the greater plan for my life, but I'd be lying to say I'm not significantly bummed out and just a little upset with myself for doing stupid things on the actual application. I mean, I guess I'm still being considered for admission, but this letter pretty much nullifies any meaning in receiving a possible acceptance letter--as in, it really doesn't matter because the school is way too expensive for my family to afford without significant financial aid--and even if I did apply for various scholarships, there's no way I'd be able to win enough to pay for about $45,000 a year. Basically, I think USC is out of the picture now, which makes me really concerned because the next best *affordable* school for me in terms of academics is JMU...and I'm not really happy with the environment at JMU. Even though I've never visited USC, it just seemed like it would have been a really nice place to attend. I idealized it as the epitome of everything great about JMU, UVA, and Georgetown--again, I don't really know, but I dream, you know. And I guess the response to this obvious.
Get over it. Don't worry. Good bye, California.
