Today, I finally got to connect the computer to my tv via HDMI. Could've done that before, but alas - when I thought a 2m cable would be enough - it obviously wasn't. So back to Amazon it went and I ordered a 3m one. Which got here yesterday.
I <3 Windows 7, simply because the only two things I had to do after connecting said computer with tv:
1) Set HDMI audio out as standard
2) Switch the screens around so the mouse wanders off the screen at the right place ;)
No fumbling around with display settings. Correct resolution was detected automatically, too. And - if I switch off the tv display (as I don't need it everytime...), the sound automatically switches back to the computer's loud speakers.
And the other way around.
So now I can watch BBC iPlayer, youtube (where all the QI goodness is!) and co. on my tv! Yay!
ALSO, I connected my DVR to my tv via a second HDMI cable. My DVR supports Upscaling. So, while upscaling is not real!HD, as it's only interpolated, the image is so much more... intense. It's not sharper - because it's still a Standard TV signal - but it's so much more saturated and... alive already!
geekery,
