Zombies? In MY LJ?

It's more likely than you think.

I haven't said anything else about the show because I'm still trying to figure out how I feel about it.

I mean, as a show, it's good. They're going off of the book quite a bit, and it's not a problem; the only real issue I have with that is they're trying to squeeze so much into it, but of course with only six episodes they need to hit everything they want to.

The problem I'm really having is this: I know (in broad strokes) what's going to happen to these people, and I'm not sure I want to see that.

Seriously. This is a series that does not follow the typical narrative arc, where things get bad in the second act and then better in the third. This takes place after the apocalypse. Things never get any better. And there's a constant question of 'how far will they really go?' Because things get really, really dark. I mean, I think I know what will happen to close out the season, and honestly, I can't help but put 'if they don't shy away from it' after that statement. And really, even if they don't shy away from anything...I'm not sure I want to see all the shit these people are going to have to go through.

It's a weird thing, and I'm sure it's going to kill the series eventually unless they drastically alter the tone. Which they don't seem to want to do. But as a friend has mentioned, everyone he knows has just put the books down at some point and said 'that's it, I'm finished.' When they really get that it's never going to get any better for these people, and they don't want to be there with them any more. There are currently 12 books, I've read 8. And when I got to what happens at the end of book 8, I put it down.

This isn't a series that ends, it's one that people decide they won't deal with any more. I'm curious to see how long it lasts, but I doubt I'll get there myself.

zombies!
