Things are finally starting to look up where we live, now that I'm not allowing myself to be bombarded by all the hysteria from the MSM. Focusing on living authentically, with what I see from my own two eyes, has been the best thing for my struggling psyche. The world isn't perfect, but it's better than they want to let on, and there is plenty to be grateful for.
For the first time in over a year we have been able to:
1. Walk into a brewery that didn't require face coverings.
2. Order a drink, without being forced to also order food.
3. Eat dinner inside with a multi-household group of 9 1/2 people at a single table.
4. Smile at children and the elderly who pass us on the sidewalk.
5. Hold a friend's daughter, who self-quarantined beyond the state-mandated level.
6. Travel out of state for vacation and not feel judged for non-essential travel.
7. See two different sets of friends two days in a row, and not be asked to quarantine or provide proof of health before or after the visit.
8. See non-essential businesses thriving instead of just getting by.
9. Stand in crowded places and not have someone attempting to delegate proper separation.
10. Converse with strangers and make new friends.
These seem silly to even list, and I'm sure there are even more oddities I'm not consciously aware of, but with all the craziness around us we need to hold on to every little victory. I'm starting to see a Normal I'm willing to accept going forward, and glimpses of the old life I'd be so happy to have back. We're nearly through the woods, I can feel it.
To quote Samwise Gamgee, "In the end it's only a passing thing, this shadow. Even darkness must pass. A new day will come, and when the sun shines it will shine out the clearer."
There's good in this world, and it's worth holding tight to.
