I am getting settled in Toronto. I am super busy and I like that - even though I have no friends. But Molly is in town this week - yay to my first visitor.
But I've noticed something: Everything is so expensive here! A 99cent bag of chips in the states costs $1.67 here. And a McDonald's meal which would cost $5 in the states is $3 here. Everything is so much more expensive. When you look at books do you notice how everything in Canada is so much more expensive? Yup. And now the Canadian dollar is equal to the US. So...really....I am getting screwed. Not only did I take a $15,000 pay cut in salary but I am probably spending at least $5,000 more a year on groceries, books, and other essentials. So, really, I've lost $20,000 a year. Everyone told me that Toronto is so much cheaper than the Bay Area. Apparently, they were lying or just didn't know what the hell they were talking about.
I'm not sure I can survive here on this salary. If Indigo weren't making the big bucks, I'd be out on my ass right now.
But I do love being here with Indigo. Financially though it just sucks. Oh yeah, and I still don't have any friends. :( Unless you count my coworkers (but there are only 2 of them!)
Anyways...that's my concern of the day. Just thought I'd share.
