Phil Plait The Bad Astronomer has a brief post about John Conyers (D-MI)who apparently has an issue with freely available scientific information. as far as i can tell the only people who are really afraid about making scientific articles freely available to all are the people in the business of publishing the journals. that's just my personal non-working scientist opinion. i think the journals still have and will for a very long time have relevance. often when a paper is published it is not available to the general public for 12 months. i don't have an issue with this model and i don't feel it is going anywhere in the near future. i hope Phil makes those phone calls and that they have a positive effect.
