Hey all!
What's happenin? everything's slicker than snot on a doorknob here (...I havent already said that recently, have I?). we had a relatively good week. we found a few new investigators that we're working with. it rained again yesterday, but not quite as bad, so we had more than 9 come...instead, we had 15. 20 overall, really, but 5 of them were from the district presidency and stuff like that.
we were originally waiting for 3 investigators in church yesterday, but only 1 came...but we were rather happy about her coming. I dunno if I had talked about Maria before. she's 10, she's the daughter of a super-inactive family. we would have started teaching her about 3 or 4 weeks ago, but she told us that her dad didnt want her to get baptized. well, we finally got to talk to him ourselves the other day and he said she could get baptized if she wanted. he made sure to point out that he had no intentions whatsoever of coming back to church...but he DID give the "ok" for her to get baptized. she'd have to come to church 4 times before getting baptized, and USUALLY they get baptized on the saturday after their 4th sunday...but since that makes it right after I go home.....she's scheduled for the 27th, the monday right before I leave. as long as she makes it the next 3 weeks in a row, she'll be good for the 27th. she's a way intelligent/mature 10 year old, which is good. she's not one of those shy little kids that get baptized because the parents are slightly inactive and the elder giving the interview kinda leads her through the interview...no, she IS kinda a giggly girl sometimes, as most are...but she does realize what she is doing and wants to get baptized...this is good, considering she has absolutely no support from her parents whatsoever.
Then there's Lara, the one who actually IS the 9 year old that is only able to get baptized because her parents are starting to reactivate. she didnt come to church yesterday, her parents didnt either...which pushes the baptism back yet another week...not cool at all. we did finish all the lessons though, all she has to do is get to church one more time and then get interviewed and she's good to go.
we found a few others during the week that are kind of cool, including the first potential melchesidek priesthood holder ive taught a really well recieved first lesson to in a loooong time. yay for not baptizing primary and really old people! no offense to any primary or old people...and they do all need their salvation...but a 104 year old man doesnt do much for the leadership of a struggling branch...and neither do 9, 10, 13 or 14 year old girls...im really hoping for this guy, he seems like a winner.
ha. winter all over again eh? nah. its already been summerishly hot here for a bit and it will still get worse in this short time...and here in federal, we didnt really HAVE much of a winter this past winter. that's cool about the ward. I tell you, it will probably be WAY wierd for me to be in a ward of over 100 people. I think the most Ive seen in the mission is 80, and the past 6 months ive seen an average of 20. last week when it rained bad the overall attendance in church for this district of 6 branches?...92 people...yeah, it's gonna be wierd/cool.
ok, well, that's about it for this week. if you guys wanna randomly wire me, like, $1000000 so I can get it by next pday, I wouldnt complain...speaking of which, next pday is on wednesday the 15th, so I wont be writing until then. until then. I love you all! thanks for all the support during these 2 years!
Love,
Elder Casey Adams
