Howdy all!
Here I am again, another week, another email (kind of like "another day another dollar...except not...). it was actually a relatively nice day today. it was kind of an ugly rainy grey, but it didnt actually rain, and it wasnt too cold. we all got together today for a little sport action. we played soccer for a bit, and american football for a bit, and had some frisbee-ness in the mix as
well, all good fun. I almost made a goal in soccer head-butting the ball from a corner kick, the fact that it actually really almost went in was pretty awesome enough for me.
after all that we went in and watched "Other Side of Heaven", yes, for the who-knows-how-many-times time in the mission. I actually rather enjoy that movie though. then I jammed a little bit with one of the other elders. Elder Jorquera is probably the most amazing piano player ive heard in real life, the kid is amazing. I had my harmonica with me and we totally improved for a minute or two...which turned out pretty decent, considering Ive never really learned how to play more than "oh suzannah" and 8 seconds of one Led Zeppelin song. anyway, after we left, we went back to our pench and ate an asado with our land-lady. the american equivalent of an asado would be a barbaque, I suppose, but here it is bigger, and better. there's lots of meat currently in my stomach :-P.
enough of all that. mmmmm.....yellow cake with chocolate
frosting....::drools::...that IS one thing I miss. they have cake here, and it's good, but it's not the same...by any means...and they dont really have frosting here...that's one thing you could send, yellow cake mix and chocolate frosting, the members would go nuts over that. and yeah...the sooner you can send that suit, the better ::checks hole in crotch::...Im just not sure how much longer these two suits will last.
yeah, you get a chuckle out of my spanglish now, just wait til I get back and realize that if I accidently mix spanish words in with english, instead of people still understanding me...Ill probably just get a lot of strange looks...animated isnt so bad, it's the opposite of that that makes me have to think...dis-animated, or un-animated. (it comes from the word "animo", jeff? help me out here)
ok, 100 your time then, we should be back. if we arent, call at 115. that should make up for differences in our watches, and the fact that we dont always get back at 200 sharp.
what cockamimie story about rising cost of sending packages? look at my face, do I seem even remotely capable of telling such a story if it werent true? (dont answer that...) besides, with how many trees are out in your new back yard. who knows how many money trees you actually might find :-P
funny that you should liken finding new investigators to asking a girl to a dance...our mission president as made, more or less, the same analogy to me a couple times now. it's good stuff. we're doing pretty good here. we have someone that could possible ::thinks of best english translation...:: get baptized the 31st of this month...he kind of has to stop smoking, but other than that he's a
really good guy. he told us he has listened to pretty much everyone else and that we're the only chance he's got left....oh, um, I already told you guys about him last week...but yeah, so when we passed by again he had already read what we left him of the book of mormon, and a little more. we found out that he actually doesnt work sundays, he just told us the first time that he is unavailable sundays, and that means that's the only day he has to leave the house and do stuff with his daughter...which is good, because he actually said he can go to church...he didnt end up showing up yesterday, but he can still make it for the 31st.
we're also working with a family that's pretty cool. we taught the husband once (the wife was in and out) and he seemed interested enough. that is, he's big into history apparently, and so was interested in what the book of mormon is. we went back for a second lesson and he too had read more than we asked him to, and he really liked it. the only problem is, he's still reading it as more of a good historical story, and not enough as a "this book can change your life" kind of thing. but the second lesson ended up being pretty sweet all the same. I ended up starting, sharing just a little spiritual thought I share with members dealing with 3 Nefi 11:37-38 (that's the chapter we had left for him to read) and mosiah 3:19. my comp ended up talking about baptism after that and we ended up having a really nice lesson dealing with baptism. we used lots of good scriptures and the husband and wife were both with us every step of the way...the only thing is, whether or not SHE has interest, the wife said very little, and the husband didnt want to commit himself to something like baptism. "its ok if we come over to read from the book, and share somethin, that's cool" but he didt wanna commit himself (yet). he actually does work on sundays, but we're gonna try to atleast invite his wife to church...we were gonna do it last saturday, assuming her husband wouldnt be home...but he was, and I figured it woulda seemed kinda wierd if we were like "well, we know YOU cant go...but your WIFE can go if she'd like", so we just invited both of them and he said if they could go, they would...apparently they couldnt go, because they didnt show up.
that's all we really have for now. there are a few members that have really good referals they are working with to get us, and they are pretty excited about it. that is a good thing. we are actually in a really good ward with really good members. there are at least 8 strong families where both the husband and wife are both very active, plus everyone else that comes, and for here in argentina...that's actually pretty good.
well, hey, Ill be talkin to all y'all in 6 days, so until then. just know that I thank all of you for your continued support. I know that this church is true, and that all the blessings we can recieve in this life are real. God lives and wants us to be happy, and all we have to do is be willing to submit ourselves to his will, and we'll be happy not only in this life, but the next one as well.

Love,
Elder Casey Adams
