Hi all,
Here I am again. YAY! right...first Pday in the new area, too bad none of
the other missionaries are doing anything really exciting. we just got my money changed, so a shiny new music making machine should be bought within the next 7 hours :-P. still no packages yet...and hey! in my defense...christmas was still
over a month away when I opened those packages! if an easter one comes a week
before easter, I can at least wait a week...probably...
the transfer went well. I didnt get to say bye to a couple families,
oficially, but one of those families knew I was most likely leaving anyway. I
got a really nice letter from the family that Ill probably end up missing most, ive ended up reading that letter every night thus far. I got all my stuff packed
up easy enough. left thursday on a collectivo with the elder also going to
Pergamino...he was my district leader, now he's my zone leader, cool stuff. I
slept most of the trip. at one point I woke up and the bus was picking up a
whole ton of girls that had just gotten out of a school kinda in the country and were goin home for the day. I just happened to take my suit coat out of the seat next to me just in case all the rest of the seats behind me were full...no sooner had I done so than a girl who was not at all ugly sat down next to me, curse those school girls. lucky for me (as a missionary) that I was never exactly a big flirt with complete strangers anyway, I just sat there looking out the window the whole time, hoping she wouldnt to talk to me... :-P
My comp is Elder White, he's a Californian, LA to be exact. Im his 3rd comp
and this is only his second area...which, I found out, this was basically
another "whitewash" (where they take out both elders and put new ones in) it's
the third area Ive whitewashed. one of the elders had some funky problem with
his feet and is in the offices until they operate on him, the other elder
already had like 6 or 7 months here, so they couldnt leavehim here. my comp,
then, got here last monday and the other elder showed him around as much as he
could, and then on thursday I got here. Elder White is a pretty cool kid. he
speaks REALLY well for only having just over 4 months in the field...almost as
good as I spoke :-P. he just needs to learn more vocab and he'd be rockin,
because he doesnt quite understand spanish as much as he can speak it.
that...and he's kind of a mumbler when he talks, we'll see what I can do to
break him out of that to make him a spanish speakin' machine.
the area itself is amazing! Im in a city of about 120K people, and Im in
the area called "centro"...which basically means all the really cool stuff/good stores/etc are in my area...there's also a TON of money in this area. almost all the houses ive been in so far have microwaves and/or DVD players (which is REALLY rare here). the bishop and our mission leader both live in amazingly nice, rather large apartment buildings. All the members here that Ive met (which, after yesterday, is most of the active ones) are wickedly awesome. apparently they almost never give missionaries references, but there are a handful of people always willing to go with us to lessons, which is always a good thing. and Im thinking im gonna gain weight in this area, as we get fed by the members everyday...and they feed us gooooood...and we all know how I am about denying food...if the good people make it, Id have to eat it...and if they make a ton of it...well, I dont like them thinking I didnt like it, by just eating a little... :-P
we dont currently have any true investigators, but in the past 3 days we've
found a slew of potential investigators doing street contacts with whom we set
appointments up for this week. we'll see what the week brings us, eh? Im really excited to be workin' here, I have a feeling it'll be rockin'.
Dont worry mom, I deffinately have my eye peeled for thimbles wherever I
go...but since there's not really many huge "tourist" type places in the
mission, Im thinkin the airport is the only place ill snag one. well, anyway, I think that's about it for this week. Im doin' good, still healthy, happy, and hungry (<--...well, I had to think of something else beginning with H...there were worse options...;-P) hope everyone back home is doin good and rockin' out.
I love you all!
Love,
Elder Casey Adams
