Howdy to all my northern hemisphere friends and family!
Well, one full week as senior comp...and well, there's not much difference so far, as Im new in the area and am basically following my comp around, but it is still cool. we just had a baptism this past saturday. it was all rather stressful as we couldnt get a hold of a key to open up the font area until a little late. and I had rather an adventure trying to make the banana bread about an hour and a half before we left. that adventure includes:
almost using 2 cups of flour that expired in august
the possibility that I used a full cup of oil instead of 1/2 like the
recipe says
the pan almost not fitting in the oven
and who knows what else...but it was stressful...and hot...
but, like the first time, the banana bread was a big hit. the adults just had to let the kids eat all the burnt pieces that were on top in the tupperware (curse argentine oven hot-spots...) :-P
the baptism itself was good. plenty of people showed up. including the way inactive dad of david. the man pretty much wants nothing to do with the church. I think he said all of about 5 words at the baptism. and right after the service he stayed outside the whole rest of the time waiting for it to be over, he didnt even eat any refreshments!...
Other than that, not much is happening over here. well, we are doing the 20 contacts that we are supposed to be doing every day. so, whether or not WE get any investigators from that, someone in this mission is getting blessed because of our obediance. well, also, we actually had 4 investigators in church yesterday...they arent really "investigators" yet, but they arent members, and they were in church, so that's still cool. we just need to go find them and teach them.
Im pretty sure that's about it as far as the work goes. Im learning how cool my companion is. the man is obsessed with kayaking. he has been a river rafting guide since he was 14 and has kayaked the grand canyon. all his stories make me want to get really into that when I get home...alas, being a river guide is yet another thing to add to the list of things I would love doing for a living that wont support a family (right next to my singing/music and acting careers) Ill probably have to live with family/friend trips to west virginia once or twice a year. it is interesting to be on the inside and learn all the lies that the guides tell you to make things seem more interesting.
so, another cooking question. well. I tried making hash-browns again yesterday. I grated them into cold water and all, was there something else I was supposed to do before I threw them in the pan to fry them? Ill make those hash-browns one of these days...
well, enough of that subject. I like your theory on why I get moved around so much, I guess that could be true. I have my pet peeves, but just never tell them to my comps (i figure it is a matter of that whole patience thing) and other than that, I was always described back home as "vanilla ice cream", Im just plain non-offensive, try to get along with everyone. but who knows, im bound to have a companion where we dont get along so well, unfortunately it always happens. I could be someone's second comp...apparently your second comp is always the hardest to get along with...I got lucky with mine, he was really cool.
by the way, I remember that one email when you told me that you guys werent gonna come pick me up because it is way to expensive...well, im fine with that, because Id rather have the whole airport experiance anyway...but just know that sometime in your lifetimes you guys WILL be coming with me down here to see argentina. you can either start learning spanish now, or just depend on me the whole time, but it's true it is an amazing opportunity to be down here...and an opportunity you guys need to have, too. :-P
well, I think that's about it for this week. well, everyone, behave up there. dont do anything I wouldnt do...unless you are married...until next week, just remember...because I probably wont...
Love,
Elder Casey Adams
